We have fun saying, "We sold everything but our 3 kids and moved to Africa." It has been an incredible adventure! We are thrilled to share the wonder and beauty that Tanzania has to offer: the wildlife, the people, the mountains, the beaches, and so much more. Dashir Lodge & Safaris is located just a short 20 min. drive from Arusha town in a quiet rural community with long grasses and acacia trees - very Serengeti-like! Can't wait to hear from you! Welcome to Dashir Lodge - our home in Tanzania Darryl & Shirley Peters Canadians in love with Africa

Our family vacation at Dashir was more than a safari trip, it really was a chance to experience Africa. Shirley and Darryl, along with local people, have created a truly special place that upon returning from safari really felt like home. We travelled with our sons, aged 10 and 18 who shared a room connected to our room through a shared veranda. It was a perfect arrangement and the rooms were spacious and beautiful.

There is a lovely pool to cool off in and trails that allow you to explore the beautiful grounds on your own. The food is excellent and they even accommodated our younger son’s requests.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the excursions we went on before and after the safari, particularly the home visit and the snake park.

The 5 day safari really exceeded our expectations. We had Jeremiah as a driver and he was fantastic! He drove very safely and competently navigated some very rough roads and he’s very knowledgable about all the birds and animals. We saw every animal we wanted to see, often right by the side of the road. Tanzania has done a great job of preserving the habitat for the large animal population.

Darryl and Shirley chose wonderful places for us to stay. All had really comfortable rooms and excellent food, some had a spectacular view like Tarangire Safari Lodge and Serena at Ngorngoro. The Farmhouse had extra spacious rooms and lush grounds.

But our favourite was the Osupuko Tented Lodge on the Serengeti. After telling the kids we’d be roughing it in tents with no wifi (much to their horror) we arrived to be warmly greeted with cool cloths to freshen up and drinks and snacks...and the best wifi we encountered on our trip. The tents are large with bathrooms and a very comfortable bed. The food was delicious and plentiful and the people were very friendly and accommodating. Sitting out in front of our tent we could see water buffalo and giraffes wandering around in the distance. A really cool place to stay at the end of our safari.

I was a little nervous about travelling to Africa but I am so glad we went. The entire time we were there we felt safe and welcome. By the end of this incredible trip we had learned a few words in Swahili, had taken 3000 pictures and had a new appreciation for Tanzania and her people. We are so glad we chose to stay at Dashir. Thank you so much, Darryl and Shirley, asante sana!

Visiting Africa was always on the bucket list and when we began to hear from friends and acquaintances about their great experience with and at Dashir Lodge and Safaris we decided this would be a part of our African adventure. Like others have said the lodge just outside Arusha is absolutely gorgeous. With views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, beautifully landscaped grounds and the warm, welcoming hospitality of Darryl and Shirley you cannot have a better experience. Darryl looks after all details of your side trips and safaris while Shirley keeps you well fed with some of the most amazing meals. We all are waiting patiently for the 1st edition of the Dashir cookbook. The staff makes you feel like you are a part of their African family from always remembering your name to their bright big beautiful smiles. The safari was like none other. Dashir’s guides are very knowledgeable and will find many animals for your to see. Unlike other companies, the vehicle you travel in is well maintained and comfortable - we had to assist a few other guides and their groups whose vehicles got stuck - partly poor vehicles, partly inexperienced guides. Dashir is unlike many other companies. Darryl and Shirley have built something very special. Let Darryl and Shirley plan your African adventure and have your best adventure ever.

My husband and I attended Darryl and Shirley's presentation when they did their cross country tour. After the presentation we were so impressed we decided to book the trip with another couple. From the first step of communicating Darryl had everything organized and planned.

The trip was more than any of us could ever have expected. Your wonderful home is beyond words, hospitality was fabulous, food so delicious and your wonderful family who work with you at the lodge, they are so amazing, we loved all of them and words can not describe how welcoming everyone made us feel. Every attention to detail was made in the lodges, trip planning and your nightly update for the next day, it made us feel so comfortable and excited to start the next adventure.

The safari exceeded our expectations, our guide Malaki was so knowledgable and was able to allow us to experience the big five plus numerous other animal encounters that we would never have thought possible, including a Cheetah (4) kill of an impala.

Darryl and Shirley I could go on and on about how wonderful you both are and your fabulous home, thank you again for the most amazing African experience it exceed any of our expectations. We are reminiscing and will continue to reminisce for days, months and years to come about our wonderful experience in your adopted home of Africa.

It was a trip of a lifetime. Darryl and Shirley have done an outstanding job in establishing Dashir Lodge and Safaris. I concur with all those who have mentioned the incredible organization, attention to detail and hospitality that we as visitors experienced. Before the trip it was good to be able to ask Darryl about any concerns we might have about our stay in Tanzania. Everything was looked after. The safari driver patiently answered all our questions and we were able to see the Big 5. Meals at Dashir were delicious and even though I don't cook much, I look forward to the upcoming cookbook so I can try the buttenut squash soup recipe.

My wife and I were lucky enough to be joined by 10 new and old friends for a 13 day adventure starting and ending at Dashir Lodge.
From the very start of the booking process one of the co-owners Darryl made it easy and kept us informed of all the plans. Upon arrival, we soon realized behind the scene Darryl kept everything running like a well oiled machine.
When we arrived at Dashir we were greeted by a great lady “Shirley” she is like a coach of a great team of employees that do everything they can to make your stay perfect. We had no expectations of what our accommodations and food would be like but soon found out that the food at Dashir is incredible, and the accommodations were amazing.
When you leave Dashir to head out on your Safari ,Darryl and Shirley have picked out some of the most stunning camps for your overnights. I use he word camps loosely. Some of these hotels have the most stunning views you can imagine. When you are out on safari you are surrounded by all types of wildlife at all times, but we always felt safe with our guides and the guards that patrolled the grounds .
We were very lucky to not only see hundreds of our favourite animals, but got to see the migration of Zebras and Wildebeest.
One of the best experiences was”Darryl and Shirley “
These great people have done an amazing job of building not only a great business but a great community of employees. They are lifting up their community and investing in the futures of many of their staff.

We traveled to Tanzania with a group of friends and had a wonderful time while staying at Dashir Lodge. Dashir Lodge is very well designed with a beautiful dining/sitting room where you can relax and have tea or coffee at any time. The cottages/huts where you sleep are very clean and spacious with a sitting area, a well-appointed bathroom, and a large terrace. All interiors are tastefully decorated with African art. The food at the lodge was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Shirley, Darryl and the staff (which is more like a family) were absolutely amazing. They made sure we were well cared for. That started with picking us up at the airport and their hospitality carried on to our trip to Kilimanjaro, a nine day safari (Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Central and North Serengeti) and a four day trip to Zanzibar. Two from our group who hiked Mount Kilimanjaro were exceptionally well taken care of by porters and guides making sure they made it to the top. The safari and the trip to Zanzibar was organized expertly by Darryl. We didn’t have to worry about anything – tips, boarding passes for the flights from safari and to Zanzibar, all transfers were all done for us. The safari was wonderful (minus the bumpy roads) with lots of animals to see (we identified 36 four legged animals and 25 birds) and various types of accommodation to experience (from fancy hotel to tented camps with navy shower). The local excursions around Arusha gave us a chance to meet Tanzanian people and experience some of their culture. Zanzibar provided relaxing white beaches and a turquoise ocean. It was wonderful. I would recommend our itinerary to anyone.
Finally, we admire Daryl and Shirley's dedication to mentoring and helping their local community. They have done an amazing job of building not only a great business but also investing in their community and improving the lives of local people.
Thank you Dashir Lodge for a wonderful African experience.

We have been to Africa 5 times and enjoyed many safaris in several sub Saharan countries. If you want to see animal wildlife in 1 or 2 days go to Kruger National Park. If you want to experience all of Africa spend 1 or 2 weeks with Dashir Lodge.

A boutique lodge in rural Tanzania near Kilimanjaro with a family atmosphere, safe, secure and 5 star accommodation, delicious fresh cuisine, with safe water out of all their taps. Resort wide free wifi, with easy plug in for all devices. All tips included.

Dashir Lodge will ensure you see it all and more, attending to details that make worry free. Enjoy the vastness and grandeur that is Africa, its people, wildlife and natural wonders. Plus an opportunity to see the people of their local community, being hopeful for a better tomorrow.

You will have experiences to remember for a life time and all your expectations will be exceeded.

Our third visit to Dashir Lodge since 2016 showed that Dashir still deserves the #1 position on Trip Advisor for lodges in the Arusha area. Beautifully decorated chalets ensured comfortable accommodation for the 11 who were travelling with us. Delicious food, served with flair in the thatched gazebo, meant every meal was a treat. The staff are invariably friendly and helpful. Hosts and owners, Darryl and Shirley, are always present to answer questions or help out. Darryl’s planning of local excursions, the safari and last few days in Zanzibar was, as always, meticulous. We enjoyed having Jeremiah and Malaki as our drivers for the 3rd time. Their expert driving and vast knowledge add so much to the safari experience.
One of the special features of our stays at Dashir are always the evening of dance that the Maasai, who work at Dashir, provide for us. Singing in their inimitable way, joy in their dancing, and participation by all of us as guests make it a very special memory.
Perhaps most important is Dashir’s involvement with the local community, with the building of a health clinic (and plans to meet other medical/social needs of the village) and provision of fresh, clean water to the village, clinic and lodge. Dashir is committed to continuing its support of the local village in any way possible. Many staff come from the village providing much-needed employment for the workers.
We can’t recommend Dashir highly enough. A trip of a lifetime is a guarantee if you visit Dashir and entrust your trip arrangements to Darryl and Shirley.

We enjoyed our time at Dashir Lodge and on safari. Darryl and Shirley crafted an itinerary for our vacation which showcased the best of Arusha, Serengeti and Zanzibar. Our day trips from the lodge allowed us to met the locals and get a taste of Tanzanian culture. Darryl briefed us each night so we were prepared the next day’s adventure.
A daily highlight at Dashir was waiting for supper menu to be posted. The menu featured the fresh ingredients available from the Dashir garden and local merchants. We are eagerly anticipating a cookbook! The Dashir staff made sure that we had plenty to eat and were most attentive.
Our drivers took excellent care of us while we were on day trips and safari. The drivers were extremely knowledgeable. Many interesting details regarding the points of interest and animals were passed on and every question was answered.
We weren’t sure what to expect while travelling during COVID, but we found that the risk of COVID transmission was extremely low. All meals were served in covered outdoor venues. We travelled to the parks in our own private group. Our day trips were also private excursions. We felt safe while in Tanzania.
Travelling to Tanzania is the trip of a lifetime. We would highly recommend staying at Dashir Lodge and allowing them to show off Tanzania. Asante sana Dashir!

Its hard to put into words how fantastic our experience was. Right from the start we were welcomed with open arms by Darryl and Shirley and their Dashir family. From the time we landed at Kilimajaro airport to the time left 3 weeks later, every aspect of our trip was meticulously planned and executed by the Dashir team. The trip was customized to our preferences without a hitch. The staff at Dashir cared for us with a warmth that made it easy and natural to feel part of their family. The food and service at Dashir was superb and dietary preferences were easily accommodated. The accommodations at Dashir and while on safari were excellent. Our safari guide was friendly, and knowledgeable and helped make our safari experience unforgettable. The day excursions organized by Shirley and Darryl introduced to many wonderful Tanzanian people and helped us get a taste of true Tanzanian life. Time spent on Zanzibar, enjoying some scuba diving and the vast white sand beaches was a great way to end off our trip.
