We have fun saying, "We sold everything but our 3 kids and moved to Africa." It has been an incredible adventure! We are thrilled to share the wonder and beauty that Tanzania has to offer: the wildlife, the people, the mountains, the beaches, and so much more. Dashir Lodge & Safaris is located just a short 20 min. drive from Arusha town in a quiet rural community with long grasses and acacia trees - very Serengeti-like! Can't wait to hear from you! Welcome to Dashir Lodge - our home in Tanzania Darryl & Shirley Peters Canadians in love with Africa

To be greeted by a friendly smiling Simon at the airport after spending 20+ hours on flights was such a pleasure. We walked to the car and I went to the passenger side and there was the steering wheel. I said, I guess I’m driving – that was one of the many laughs we shared with Simon during our stay. My daughter and I went to visit Shirley and Darryl at Dashir Lodge & Safaris at the end of September into early October and had an experience we will always remember. Darryl arranged everything in great detail and Shirley made sure our stay at the lodge was impecable. Shirley and her staff made sure our stay at the lodge was first class. Delicious food, rooms are first class and awesome staff. From supporting education in their village of Kikwe, supporting local artisans, their pipeline project to bring in water from the mountain, building a medical center (which has been expanded since we were there), supporting the local economy through hiring local people, the list goes on, Darryl and Shirley's dedication and commitment to the local community is truly amazing. Jeremiah was our guide and very capable driver for our 9 day safari which included Tarangier, Ngorogoro and all of the Serengeti. His knowledge of wildlife, local landscapes, flora, and birds was amazing. My final bird count will be well over 130 and animals well over 50. We flew back to Arusha from the Serengeti, which I would highly recommend. We ended our stay with 4 days in Zanzibar - highly recommended.

Feedback for Dashir stay What can we say, other than our trip was everything we wanted and soooo much more. We truly loved every minute of every day! To provide more detail…. To begin with, Darryl and Shirley provided us with a very detailed package about Tanzania, Dashir and all possible excursions. We met with Darryl and Shirley online and they were able to answer questions and eloborate on excursions. Once arriving inTanzania, we were greeted at the Airport by Simon and then once at Dashir by Darryl who provided light snacks and a brief orientation. We did a village walk which was very interesting, a great way to orientate to the area. My husband and I chose to do the coffee tour on Mt. Meru which was informative to learn about their tribe and laws in that area. Beautiful hike around the area, then we’re rewarded by a delicious goat stew lunch! Afterwards we had the opportunity to look and/or purchase coffee or related items. We highly recommend this tour. Our debriefing for our climb of Kilimanjaro was next, followed by our exciting adventure up the mountain. I chose to climb for 3 days, it was thoroughly enjoyable, beautiful and challenging. My husband successfully climbed to the summit. Stan’s notes ; The walking hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro was amazing, physically taxing at times but thoroughly enjoyable. I felt safe and well looked after by my guide William and the crew of porters. They are an amazing team and really look after you! The meals on the mountain were hot , delicious and very plentiful. We never ran short during meals. The summit ascent was physically trying ,but also mentally challenging.Starting the climb at midnight allowed me to see an amazing sunrise at the top. While Stan was climbing I took advantage of the time and did a trip to the beautiful waterfall and shopping day in Arusha. It was lots of fun and Shirley’s shopping suggestions were excellent and most helpful! She is a wealth of good ideas and recommendations. My next excursions were to St Jude’s school, highly recommend visiting this innovative and inspiring school. After St Jude’s I chose to tour the university of Tanzania music department. I had the oppotuniay to learn how to play the African drum. This was a total blast! So much fun and so interesting. Afterwards they gave me a tour of all of the traditional instruments from many of the 120 tribes of Tanzania Once my husband returned from Kili, we received our briefing from Darryl for our safari excursions. We visited all three parks, beginning with Tarangire. Within our first day there we saw most of the amazing animals (monkeys, baboons, zebra, lions, leopards, python, giraffes, many birds, antelope, wildebeests, warthogs). Frequently we spotted many zebra and elephants and each hour getting a bit closer to them along with better views. The baobab and acacia trees were phenomenal! We stayed at, Tarangire Safari Tented Lodge where we heard lions roar down the hill from us, we felt safe with the guards close by and the food was delicious. Next was Negornegora crater, one of the wonders of the world, very beautiful with its own eco system and beauty of its own. Here we saw similar wild animals to Tarangire, but additionally we saw more Varieties of birds, hippopotamus, serval, flamingos and our sighting of a rhinoceros. We loved staying at NgoroNgoro Serena Lodge and having a spectacular view of the crater right out our window/balcony. Our first morning we had a spectacular sunrise that brought tears to my eyes! When leaving our suite, what should I see outside our door was a giraffe munching on leaves…nearly face to face! Our last safari was to Central Serengeti, once again with its own beauty and opportunities to see these amazing animals! There were a few times when we were able to get very close to female lions, elephants and giraffes, so exciting! My favourites were seeing the giraffes and elephants up close and having the opportunity to see cheetahs. The stay at Kubu Kubu Tented lodge was wonderful. The open ceiling atrium in the main lodge was beautiful even as it was raining during supper. Once again the staff , food and accommodations were phenomenal . Once our safari was finished we chose to fly back to Dashir for the last few nights. Then, we were off to Zanzibar, first Stonetown to gain knowledge of the history of the area, then, a spice tour (a must see and do) and ending with our relaxing Zanzibar retreat. Beautiful crystal clear turquoise waters, white sand and hot temperature. A great way to relax and end our amazing journey. Even with our Zanzibar trip, Darryl organized and looked after our tours, taxis and accommodations. We cannot say enough about Darryl and Shirleys amazing resort! Beautiful accommodations and surrounding area, fantastic support, direction, guidance, organization, hospitality and of course all of Shirley and her staffs wonderful home made and fresh food (super yummy every day). All of the staff at Dashir from Darryl and Shirley’s direct assistants to the drivers, farmers, builders, medical staff, mechanics, and guards …. You are all wonderful and we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do! Thanks for this trip of a lifetime! Highly recommend Dashir what an amazing experience. We are looking forward to going back to Dashir and touring more of Tanzania in the future!

The service and experience was outstanding from our first inquiries through our stay at the very comfortable Dashir Lodge and the multi-day safari with an excellent guide-driver. They personalize the experience for all their clients. The hosts, Darryl and Shirley, are well organized, personable, thoughtful, creative and passionate about their "family" of staff and the neighboring community that they serve alongside their safari business. They have excellent contacts in the wildlife parks, so our accommodations were varied and high quality. Dashir was recommended to us by several friends who had been there in the past. We will be recommending Dashir to others.

If we were to try to put into words this most amazing adventure of our lives, it would take volumes of paper. This was a once in a lifetime, number 1 on our bucket list for 45 years, adventure that never once disappointed. Dashir Lodge is staffed and owned by people who steal your heart the moment you arrived and the feeling grows in leaps and bounds from then on. Darryl and Shirley were always there for every question and every detail of the journey. They go above and beyond any expectation and their involvement with their community is paramount. One can’t help but feel a part of their very large African family. We were 6 seniors that took a 21 day adventure which included several day stay at Dashir, a 6 day safari and a blissful 7 days in Zanzibar ( not to be missed). If you are searching for an unprecedented African adventure, look no further. Outstanding from start to finish.

We went to Tanzania to experience the wild, and found it ! With our amazing guide Vincent, we left Dashir Lodge in the Toyota Landcruiser to Tarangire Reserve and stayed at Tarangire Safari Lodge. From there to Ngorongoro Crater and finally to Serengeti. We were hoping to find the Big 5, but easily viewed the Big 50. If you do this same trip I would advise flying back from Serengeti as it gives you a unique perspective, and saves a day back on the bumpy roads

We have been to Africa 5 times and enjoyed many safaris in several sub Saharan countries. If you want to see animal wildlife in 1 or 2 days go to Kruger National Park. If you want to experience all of Africa spend 1 or 2 weeks with Dashir Lodge. A boutique lodge in rural Tanzania near Kilimanjaro with a family atmosphere, safe, secure and 5 star accommodation, delicious fresh cuisine, with safe water out of all their taps. Resort wide free wifi, with easy plug in for all devices. All tips included. Dashir Lodge will ensure you see it all and more, attending to details that make worry free. Enjoy the vastness and grandeur that is Africa, its people, wildlife and natural wonders. Plus an opportunity to see the people of their local community, being hopeful for a better tomorrow. You will have experiences to remember for a life time and all your expectations will be exceeded.

After more than a two year wait our much anticipated trip to Africa was finally on. Darryl had been in touch with us regularly during the extra couple of previous years and it was almost like old friends as we were greeted by Dashir after our many hours of travel. From ‘ boots on the ground’ they knew how to help us begin to conquer the inevitable jet lag and that evening, after the first of Shirley and her staff’s many delicious meals, our heads hit those perfect pillows and we slept, the African night breezes providing fresh air until we woke the next morning to really begin our adventure. From our arrival to our final leave taking from Zanzibar, Dashir and the arrangements they both provided and made on our behalf were wonderful. All of our tour guides, safari, village walk, Zanzibar city, spice farm and more, were interesting people, knowledgeable, personable, had an excellent command of english, were happy to answer our many and varied questions throughly. Through Darryl, Shirley, Elisante and all the Dashir staff Africa has left an indelible impression on us all. Thank you

If you are looking for more out of a trip than just seeing the sights, you will not be disappointed by staying with Darryl and Shirley at Dashir Lodge. The lodge is safe and secure. The staff is incredibly hospitable and friendly. The rooms are large and comfortable. Meals are at set times to ensure your safaris and excursions are on schedule. The food is wonderful and prepared professionally. Darrly and Shirley have put together a completely flexible program that gives you access to all of the tourist sights. But what we want to highlight is their attention to the cultural experiences that are available. On day one, we met their entire staff, and we were given the opportunity to introduce ourselves. On our first excursion we met the headmaster, teachers and students at the local school, and we began to see how the rural people of east Africa live. Our safaris to the national parks were made memorable by being navigated by Julius our driver. His experience ensured we got, not only the common sightings but also the one of a kind. We wrapped up out stay at Dashir with an invitation to have a meal with one of the Dashirs staff family. With one of the Dashir staff to translate for us, we had tea and lunch with the family (and neighborhood children) and shared information about their lives and ours. It was a truly remarkable experience that will stay with us for a very long time. Our stay at Dashir will be considered one of our most memorable trips to date.

From the time Simon our driver picked us up at the airport in Arusha until he dropped us off 12 days later we experienced the vacation of a lifetime. My biggest concern was that my expectations were too high having read all these trip advisor reviews. My expectations were exceeded on the very first day and continued the entire trip. It was like being on a National Geographic Documentary for 9 days on safari. We saw things that even our guide (Julius) had never seen or rarely saw. Darryl’s planning was perfect. The meals and accommodations were unbelievable. Hearing lions and elephants at night outside your tent was a different way to fall asleep. Time spent at Dashir was another high light of the trip especially the morning sharing circle. My wife and I were made to feel like family. We had tears on our cheeks when we left. The Tanzanian people are wonderful. We could learn a lot from them. Our last night was my birthday. Shirley prepared a special supper for us and a birthday cake. Thanks again for everything.
