Detailed Reviews
Well, this is our second stay at this place and you can tell it has changed ownership and that is too bad. Got in and it is very far from downtown, like 8-10 miles? Anyway, minor issue. It was very hot so decided to go for a refreshing swim. People gathered around the pool but don't think too much about it. When I get there I can't see the bottom of the pool, it's dirty, and I mean filthy. I was so hot I almost went in but glad I didn't, it was bad. No signs or anything to warn people off. Fortunately they have two pools so I went to the other one which was clean.
Breakfast the next day. Lady came to us and said "anything you want just let us know." I asked for eggs and bacon, no have. Hmmm, coffee? Sure when I was showed the coffee it was the Nescafe INSTANT. At that point I left and needed some real coffee and breakfast. If ever I need to open a business it will be a breakfast place in Mae Hong Son because there is a very limited selection for breakfast here!!!
Staff just don't seem to be in the right mood for the hotel business with the owner lounging nearby overwatching all.
I love MHS but wont be back to this place.

Very friendly staff and a great rate for a bungalow. Lovely garden and pool. A bit outside of town, but with a car that is no problem. Great misty morning views over the river at breakfast. Ask for a Thai breakfast (eg fried rice or Pad Thai) instead of continental. It's far tastier.

Everything was fine here: nice room, beautiful garden, little bar to get a drink in the evening... but in the morning the roosters start making a noise at 5.30... And then there is a tempel or something nearby, where they make announcements for the whole village...about 7 o'clock. But when you like to get up early in the morning: it's perfect! If you want to sleep a bit longer: take some earplugs...

I had the opportunity to travel with my family to this remote area in Thailand in order to escape the hassle of Phuket with New Year. Golden Pai Resort is perfectly situated in a calm area just outside Mae Hong Son town on the bank of the Pai river and nearby mountains.
The service is excellent, the staff is very friendly and the food is just great. Try the "special dishes" on the menu to get an example of what Mae Hong Son food is meant to be. Their chef really does a great job. The restaurant area is located just next to the river bank and it's terrace is ideal for sunset and enjoying a cold Singha Beer.
The resort has two pools which were a bit cold at this time of the year, but if you like to jump in a hot pool, just go to the Pooklon Country Club which is also managed by the hotel and just 9km away. Put on a mud-mask and feel 20 years younger afterwards.
It is always nice to go to Mae Hong Son as it is my favorite location in Thailand. I can't wait to go back next time.

The hotel is very basic and old. It was.... ok but wouldn't stay again.
The rooster kept crowing all night. It was not very clean. Breakfast was basic. No choices, just eggs.
It was really hard to find down the end of an alley road. We were too exhausted after travelling from Pai on bikes to go elsewhere. We will plan better next time.

Wonderful place that is unfortunately becoming a bit run down. Service is wonderful and the overall facilities (pools and restaurant) are excellent.
Hardly anyone here in February except for a few people attending a conference.
All types of accomodation from cabins to upstairs rooms.
Recommend it u you have transport and aren't too fussy about things.

Stayed for 2 nights, the bed is so comfortable. Rooms big and spacious. Swimming pool ok but with many leaves on it. The breakfast is quite acceptable.
This hotel has 2 options for accomodation. We stayed in Golden Pai, which is more like chalet type, with smaller size swimming pool.

Beautiful setting for the hotel in attractive gardens. Two swimming pools. Lovely room, quite basic bathroom, but served our needs. Used the laundry service for our trekking clothes - rather them than me - they did a great job. Were very kind when the kids locked themselves out of their room.

This hotel is a little away from Mae Hong Son city on the banks of the Pai River. In a small village. Beautifully maintained, the gardens are lush with many established trees. There are two sections, one very Thai, basic but clean and comfortable set around a large garden, the other is in the second garden and to a higher standard. Again, very Thai. The restaurant is large and on the bank of the river. Food and service are excellent. There are two unheated pools, one in each garden. All the staff are friendly and helpful but lacking in English, they always find somebody to help if they do not understand what it is you are asking about. A word of warning, it gets cool at night in Mae Hong Son and the mornings are misty and cool until about 09:00. My advice is to read about the area and the city and decide what you want to see or do then ask reception to organise transport if you have none. We always hire a car and make this our starting point to go and see the many (Thai) attractions. The famous longneck ladies from Burma live in two villages in very natural conditions. The best one is Nam Ping Din a boat ride from Mae Hong Son or by car as it is now accessible. There is a third village which is very commercial and not to be recommended.
