We were there several weeks after the museum shooting. There was an unarmed security guard who kept an eye on the beach area but since we were there early in the season, there weren't many people on the beach since the water was still too cool and it could get quite windy and cool even during the day. Having said that, we never felt unsafe while we were there, for what that's worth. The only time we saw armed police were on the streets at the roundabouts when we drove to and from the hotel.
I don't know what country you're from or what you're used to in terms of security but I don't know if having an armed security guard on the beach would make me feel any safer. I saw this once when I was a kid at a hotel in the Dominican and it actually made me more scared since I wasn't used to seeing people with guns. I don't come from a country where everyone walks around with a gun so it's unusual for me.
We had a great trip to Tunisia. The hotel staff were all very nice and as horrible as the two attacks there have been, I don't see how these 2 events should impact the entire country with a permanent stain especially considering how many shootings (for whatever reason) occur in countries like the US on a regular and ongoing basis.
