This was definitely the nicest lodging of our 2 weeks in Japan. It has only 6 rooms, and it also has 6 onsens (4 indoors and 2 outside) of various sizes. Our room was large and comfortable, and the food (breakfast was included in the room price, and we opted to pay extra for dinner) was some of the best...

I did not regret for choosing Nakaodaira among many ryokans available. I got what i wanted, privacy using open air onsen, traditional rustic ambience inn sleeping in tatami mattress. Surprisingly it is comfortable. Even my friend who has a bad back found it comfy. The room is very big to me in comparison to other hotels in in Tokyo and...

I love everything about this ryokan. Excellent service, great facilities, fantastic privacy and delicious meals prepared by the owner. Naoko provided very useful information on how to reach Naokadaira and subsequently, she was very responsive to all our queries too. Missing this place already...

Stayed here 2 nights recently. I came directly from Tokyo. So it was a nice change. Nakao was very good at communicating via email before I arrived. She answered all my questions and gave detailed instructions (in English) on how to get there from the train station in Takayama. They were super nice in person, as well. There isn't much...

Our night at Nakaodaira was excellent. The owners were very response to our emails on how to get to the hotel. They also gave us a very useful map of the area for finding great locations for hiking and sightseeing the area. We had the dinner and it was excellent! Every course was delicious. The private onsens were very relaxing...

We stayed in Nakaodaira at the end of September. Having booked it online, we had an email from Naoko within 24 hours with helpful information about how to get to the hotel. This attention to detail continued throughout our stay and were in awe of all the kindness and consideration shown. The room was clean and spacious. We slept on...

We arrived here in the late evening after spending half the day getting to Takayama and then half the day sightseeing. Takayama is beautiful but if it weren't for this Ryokan I think I would have been disappointed. Takayama is quite far so I was feeling a little cheated. Going up the mountain to Nakaodira in the dark had me...

Thank you for staying with us and posting your review. It was a short stay with us, but we're happy to hear you liked our onsen and food. If you had had more time, you could have enjoyed more.

This was a splurge for me, as I usually stay in hostels when I travel. But it was totally worth it! My room was very cosy and clean. There are only six rooms and also six private onsen that you can use 24/7. Perfect for me since I have a few tattoos and haven't tried to use the public onsen...

Thank you for staying with us and posting your review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our private onsen and meals. Regardless of whether you have tattoos or not, you can enjoy onsen without time limit. I'm pleased if the descriptions about meals help you to understand Japanese food. Naoko Minoura

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Japan, and the two nights at Nakaodaira were the highlight of the trip. We spent the days hiking around the Japanese alps; there are hikes accessible directly from the hotel, but we walked to the Shinhotaka ropeway and did a day hike higher up in the mountains. In the evenings, we recuperated...

Thank you for staying and posting your review. We didn't know your trip was honeymoon. If we knew, we could congratulate you. I'm happy to hear you loved your stay here and are making a plan to visit again. There are other day hike courses and several days hiking courses. I suppose you can enjoy different one next time. I stayed there for 2 nights and had a wonderful experience. It is about 40 minutes away by bus to Kamikochi, and only 10 minutes away from the Shin-Hotaka ropeway. It is a family-owned hotel and has only six rooms, four indoor baths, and two outdoor baths. All baths are private and are available 24 hours a day. The service...

Thank you for staying with us and writing review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed staying here and hiking in Kamikochi. I guess some of our meals were you've never experienced before, but I wanted you to taste our local food. People here love such kinds of food. I think you are still traveling somewhere in Japan. Hope you enjoy...
