I stayed here for a couple of nights during the spring festival. It wasn't our first choice but it was the last place available. I don't want to say this is a bad place, because it's not, it's a big spacious ryokan with comfortable futons. With clean shared toilet and onsen facilities. All of which were adequate. It's nothing special...

Although the couple running it hardly speak any English the service is excellent. They are always willing to help or answer questions and they even brought us some fresh fruit to our room. The room is basic, what you expect from a ryokan but quite big and clean. It's about half an hour on foot from the station but taxi's...

We stayed one night at this ryokan. From the Takayama station, we walked for about 25 mins trying to locate the ryokan. Once you know the location, it would take about 17-20 mins to walk to the station. The ryokan is managed by an elderly couple who could not speak any English. We managed to get by with my very...

When you arrive at the Oyado Banri you will feel like you are travel in time. Everything is old style. The old couple don't speak English at all but they are really friendly. We were there at the spring festival and the man took us to the city center. It's a bit far from the attractions and the train station...

We stayed only one night in Takayama, and had our needs fully taken care of at Oyado Banri. We booked this ryokan as we didn't like big and impersonal hotels, and wanted to have a feel of a traditional family-run ryokan. Check-in was strictly at 3pm (we came earlier but there was no one to attend to us), and located...

Lovely family run traditional ryokan. We had rooms 1 and 2 which were spacious and ideal for our family. Fridge available to use. Delightful older couple who gave us lifts to the station and bags of Japanese treats for our kids (no English spoken). Great family restaurant nearby which he suggested to us. A traditional bathing experience which we could...

Breakfast is really good. They don't speak english at all but they are nice. If you need a ride to the train station they'll be happy to take you in their van. It is not super clean, but the tatami is comfortable. The location is not so good. You have to call a cab in advance, or if you want...

This is a truly great ryokan in Takayama and while the hosts English is non-existent, it is more than made up with their hospitality and the fact that the owner is a sake sommelier! Wonderful Japanese banquet for evening meal - it never disappoints. I have taken numerous groups of school students there and also adult groups. Everyone has always...

fantastic ryokan ... a cosy place run by a warm elderly couple who were really hospitable. despite them not able to converse in English, the owner tried to explain stuff and to ensure we were well settled-in. the meals were the best i had during my 2 week stay in Japan - the hida beef we had for dinner is...

wonderful ryokan in takayama. online map was slightly misleading, ending with us walking around in rain for an hour. they don't speak english at banri so calling for directions didn't work. however, once arrived, bathed, and yukata-d, we had the most fantastic supper. hida beef with hoba miso. hida beef's just as good as kobe, if less famous. and the...
