We were looking forward to a stay in Japanese ryokan during our trip to japan. Although the hotel is in a good location round the corner from the station we were a little disappointed as it is a fairly modern hotel tricked to give a Ryokan feel. The lobby is cramped and as the floors are covered in tatami mats...

Very basic accommodation. However amazing food, very traditional meals and plenty of it. Both private and public onsen. The location is perfect, close to everything, and walkable from the train station!

The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the rail and bus station. The hotel name is only displayed in Japanese so needs to be identified by the map location and picture (unless you speak Japanese). The room was reasonably sized for Japan and a little tired but perfectly clean. The outside onsen was nice with mountain views. I enjoyed...

Room was clean and comfortable, good-sized but not spacious (there wouldn't be room to open a large suitcase). Good spa, though some mold on the walls is visible. We were happy with the breakfast, but disappointed with the dinner. The dinner buffet is 5,000 yen plus 700 yen for soft drinks. It was ok, but we felt that it was...

Visited here for one night, with my mum. Check in process is quick and we wonder the hotel is quite big in scale, which means lots of rooms and visitors. We put the luggage here in the morning and went for a day trip, and come back at 3. First thing we did is straight to the private onsen! We...

The hotel is an easy five minute walk from the station. Shoes are left in a locker at reception and once checked in most people change into the Samue (Japanese style pyjamas) to use the baths or go to dinner. Although not many wore them to breakfast - we did!! The room was a fair size, although removing the coffee...

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. Room stinks of smoke, food (buffet dinner) is ridiculously bad, the dinner area is crowded and the whole room stinks of smoke as everyone cooks their own meat, and the service is the worst I've seen in Japan. Just skip Takayama if you can't find another hotel in the town!

The hotel is just down the street from the train and bus station, and it mixes Japanese and western styles. On entry past a souvenir sales area, begins a tatami mat section where guests leave their street shoes in a keyed shoe box, and proceed in stocking feet to the room, restaurant or other area. The rooms are small but...

Just ending a wonderful week of touring central Japan. We stayed in 4 different hotels, with Takayama Oman being of them. The only positive for this hotel, as everyone says is the proximity to the station, frankly speaking after staying here I can say that I would rather compromise and stay at a location further, then stay at this place...

From Nagoya another 2 hour by express train and then you arrive to Takayama . Small town with a lot of tourists. Hida no Sato folks village is the main attraction. You can walk around an old village and experience how they lived in the olden days. There are a lot of shrines in Takayama and 2 nice morning markets...
