Ryokan Tanabe is a fantastic place. The staff are super friendly (and all appear to be over 70),the service is excellent, the food is authentic (although we are struggling the with Japanese breakfasts). Rooms are spacious and have a TV and WiFi - which was a pleasant surprise. Sleeping on a futon was interesting on the first night, but you...

We stay here during end of Feb 2017, and I'm glad that we do so. The owner of this ryokan is aged, but she still very active and try to served us the best she could. Beside that, the 2 ladies who served our dinner and breakfast, make us feel so Home. Really like our grandma and mother serving meal...

This is a very authentic Ryokan with futons on the floor and shoes at the door. The rooms are clean and simple. We did not have any meals at the ryokan so I cannot comment on them. The owner is lovely and very helpful. Her English is good and it was easy to communicate. Overall we were very glad we...

Chosen Tanabe based on reviews and this is also recommended by some Japanese site. Was a little concern when I read some comments that they barge in and out of your room to set up dinner or your room. This did not happen at all during my stay. The ladies are very pleasant and the owner is such a sweet...

We stayed 2 nights, dinner & breakfast included. This is a traditional Ryokan, shoes off at the door. Futons on the floor. Meals served in your room. The staff change your room from dinning to sleeping & back to dinning for you. The food was amazing, so many dishes, the language barrier meant we didn't always know what everything was,...

This ryokan is in a great location about 10 minutes walk from the train and bus stations and close to all the main sights. The ladies who run it were very sweet and our room was warm, comfortable, well-lit and immaculate although the walls seemed rather thin and we heard our neighbours apparently laughing heartily at a TV programme. The...

There are many room size, facility, location as well as menu choices. Larger room with own bath and toilet; smaller room with shared toilet; room with a private yard etc. etc..... For the experience, should try classic breakfast and dinner at least once. You can also opt for steak dinner. Different price of course. Meals included are optional. Great location,...

A really funny experience during the honeymoon. Beautiful ryokan located in the center of Takayama. Excellent food prepared just inside the rooms (both dinner and breakfast). The leading madame of the hotel is really nice, but a little bit dictatorial :-), I say that with love. There is an onsen inside and it was a relaxing experience. The bed was...

Ryokan Tanabe is very conveniently located, just a few steps from the heart of the old city and some of the main attractions. Nearby there are nice coffees and sake bars for the evening. The Ryokan itself is nicely appointed and well kept. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The rooms are nice, however not all offer a lot of...
