Disappointing experience here. YES the rooms are big - but they are spartan - no real place to unpack. Small and not soft towels. Meals pretty mediocre and the service is also pretty mediocre. Not at all what I expected. Quite disappointing.

Most in our group chose the rooms with standard beds, but do yourself a favor and select a Japanese style room and sleep on the tatami mats. The onsens here were very hot, but in an incredible setting.

Wonderful old inn lost in the forest and mountains, covered in late spring snow was the perfect place to channel your interior samurai. Make sure you get a tatami room and sleep on a futon. Dress in the supplied "yukata' for dinner!

When you get to Matsumoto, turn right out of the station and walk about 50 metres - it's easy to find the shuttle. Not sure when you're going but in winter, the drivers wear black hats and the most amazing black overcoats... More
