Great location overlooking the Otaru Canal. Onsen is top notch. Fantastic service as well. Helped me book a great sushi restaurant. Will stay again if I'm back in Otaru. Cons: No ice machine, charge 100 Yen or something for a bucket of ice, that's a first for me in Japan!

It is about 5min walk away from the Otaru JR Station, easy to find. Staffs were very kind. They paid attention to every little details, from the building decorations, welcome drinks, room amenities, public bath, lounge area to breakfast. The hotel's rustic charm is a perfect match to the old city of Otaru. I would definitely go back to this... More

We stayed here for one night. The Ryokan is old and basic, but very cosy and charming. The staff are very attentive and they try to make you feel at home. Nestled in between the canal and shopping and sushi street. The location is ideal as a base to explore Otaru. Between choosing a typical hotel or a Ryokan, I... More

Coming from Hawaii, where tourism and the hospitality business is the primary industry, I have an appreciation of Good versus Excellent service. The staff at Furukawa is the best hospitality staff that I have encountered. We visited Hokkaido in February to attend the Yuki Matsuri Snow Sculpture Festival in Sapporo. We were fortunate enough to have the time to visit... More

I have seen the photos of the canal in many magazines but never thought I can see it so up close from the room I stayed at this lovely ryokan. It truly was a home away from home with a nice rustic feel to the whole place. The friendly staff welcomed us at a traditional Japanese style looking reception area... More

Was lucky enough to get the canal view room with balcony. Instead of heading down to the canal with all the tourists, you can have this exclusive view from your own balcony. They provided everything we need with great attention to detail (even moisturising masks were provided in the room) Staffs are all friendly and always available This place has... More

Staff made effort to make all of us at home. Upon hearing that it was our honeymoon, they made a nice little gift for us! Their breakfast and dinner were really awesome. Croissant and apple pie are must haves every morning -- these lovely smell while they were baking in the oven never fail to bring us out of the... More

This was my favorite hotel of all the places we stayed in Japan. Even though we stayed in a Western room, we still experienced all of the warm and traditional Japanese hospitality we had heard so much about. From our arrival, through our departure, the staff at the hotel is incredibly kind and helpful. We absolutely enjoyed an hour in... More

The location is super good for sight seeing. Staffs are kind and very helping even though their English skill is a bit limitted. Room is not as big as i expected and the dinner was not very satisfactory... Onsen is very good and convenient.

We drove from Asahikawa for a midweek stay at Otaru Furukawa. We were given our own parking space which was really helpful for our stay. We booked a Japanese style room via booking.com and communicated with them via the website portal quite easily prior to our stay. It turned out that our window looked out to the popular Otaru canal.... More
