From the moment we walked in we loved this traditional ryokan. The friendly service started when we walked in the door to the time when we were walked to the bus stop. The hot spring bath was a slice of heaven. Beware if travelling by bus from Odawara as there is no room for luggage. Travelling back via the open...

I stayed here with 20 students from Byron Bay High School. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with lots of food for hungry students. There are a couple of traditional baths here to soak away the stiffness from walking around Hakone. The bus stop is directly out the front and goes in both directions. Up the...

I liked everything about this place: staff were friendly and helpful and spoke English. I made a reservation by e-mail and response was very fast. A lot of information e.g. on hiking tours and near-by restaurants was provided. The room (dorm for 3 people) was clean and room size was sufficient. Hot water and microwave were provided as was a...

We stayed at the hostel recently on a guided tour, the facilities were great. It is extremely clean and it has 3 private onsens, 1 which is outdoor and very cool. The staff are extremely helpful and all the necessary guides and information are readily available in the front room. As others allude to Hakone itself is quite challenging getting...

Japanese style rooms, very clean, 3 private onsens with volcano-heated water so there is always one available for you... The staff was very kind and helpful whilst the hotel accepted payments with credit cards which is not so common in Japanese youth hostels. The bus stop is just round the corner so it is easy to travel in the Hakone...

My wife and I were traveling for 3 months and spent several weeks in Japan. This hostel was far and away the most expensive and least convenient hostel we've stayed. The rooms were simple and Japanese style (no beds, floor mats) but were expensive at over $100 a night - in fact it was the most expensive hostel we've ever...
