We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of May. We stayed in two ryokans during our trip to Japan but this was definitely not the best. The inn has a history dating back to 1630 and although (obviously) it has been modernised it would benefit from some fresh paint and some smartening up in places. Our bathroom was...

We stayed in a room on the ground floor with an outdoor onsen overlooking the river. Our room was huge -- we had an entry way, main room with sliding doors on both sides, then a smaller room with a sink and windows overlooking the outdoor onsen and the river, and a small toilet room and shower. The outdoor onsen...

This ryokan is slightly off the beaten track but it is worth finding. Expect a very traditional Japanese experience, very little furniture in your room and get your futon out of the cupboard! We had a private hot spring bath attached to our room (right next to the river) which was a delight but the public baths were also excellent...

Just 1½ hours from Tokyo and you exit the train and enter an entirely different world. The sound of the river and the birds welcome you and you feel immediately calm and relaxed. The ryokan is beautifully located next to the river. We had a room on the first floor, with a private bath on the balcony (sheltered, so it...

My husband and I stayed here as part of a trip round Japan for 2 nights!! As anywhere in Japan it was clean tidy and the staff were so so helpful and lovely, also the staff on reception spoke impeccable English. Our room was spacious and it was a lovely traditional Ryokan. The absolute Cherry on the cake was our...

Read here that there wasnt hot water in the room, so was a little worried but thank god there was hot water from the tap. Awesome onsen with both outdoor and indoor. Food is good, traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner and it is inclusive of a 90min free-flow drinks (with varieties like soft drinks, juice, tea, sake, shochu, beer, whisky,...

Spet 2 Days in this amazing place where tradition stands high up on the scale. Some wonderful traditional Japanese food being served and we enjoyed everything. They take good care of their guests . A small complain; the menu could be explained better in English so we all know what we ate. Some of the food is a surprise ....

This ryokan is 400 years old as per pit research. The service was impeccable. We got the best room with private onsen bath which is strategically placed outside with a view of the spring below. The chef-curated full course Japanese meals were an experience in themselves. Highly recommended and I'll recommend opting for rooms with the private onsen

This was the best place we stayed the whole trip! At first we thought we had a tiny room, but then we opened the sliding doors to a huge room plus a separate bathroom AND a private onsen! The river was just outside, so we could hear the water running by at night, which was so relaxing. It was beautiful,...

This sweet, local ryokan went above and beyond our expectations for a traditional japanese stay! For a 2-person trip, this ryokan is the best value find in all of Hakone (we booked the Standard B room with a river view). No need to look anywhere else, I spent hours searching already :) The service is beyond amazing and the staff...
