chose this hotel due to its location in Hakone - felt like i had stepped back into a 1960’s hollywood movie - decor was a little outdated, but everything was elegant & had an old world charm - service was exceptional - dinner at the french restaurant was the best meal i’ve ever had in my life - breakfast was equally elegant - onsen facilities were relaxing & very nice (indoor & outdoor) - pricing was on the expensive side, but worth it for a special occasion. free shuttle bus service to port area was great, ran frequently & on time.

Unbelievable location with mt Fuji view from room (to the side) The hotel itself has some history to it, i believe the original owners uncle was Mitsubishi founder. Hotel looked a little like it needed restoration, both inside and out. Rooms had a 1990's vibe to them, heavy carpet and heavy wooden furniture. Not exactly modern. However, there was a mini fridge, wifi was ok, and tea kettle for coffee and tea which was in room. Our room was nothing special, but if opened window and looked out to the right, we had amazing views of Mt Fuji top and lake and beautiful hotel garden in the front! We didn't actually expect you could see Fuji that well! Amazing sunset over the lake from our room. Breakfast is either western style or Japanese. We choose Japanese breakfast, which had almost all fish dishes, presented beautifully. You get a set menu with tea. We probably would have liked the western breakfast better but fun to try. Breakfast room has view, and maybe dining outside on terrace during summer ? Hotel had fine onsen with two massage chairs ! Great facilities to shave and bathe properly beforehand. Onsen bath is divided in men and women and you bathe naked! Overall, we enjoyed the quiet location (almost entirely isolated hotel) more than the actual hotel, although the onsen facilities were great as well!

The service, facilities, furnishings, food, hot springs, gardens, and scenery are excellent in almost every way, and the sense of peace and security that comes with it makes for a quality vacation. I have visited many times and have never been disappointed.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. It is just a few minutes walk to the Hakone shrine and tori gate on the water and about 15 minutes walk to the town by the water. From the town you can catch the pirate ship or ferry to the base of the cable car and head up the mountain to other attractions. The hotel grounds are lovely and full of pathways lined with Rhododendrum. The rooms are a great size and all have a view of the lake. I stayed on the third floor and in my opinion rooms on the third and fourth floors have a better view but the second floor rooms have a balcony and the first floor rooms have patios. The hotel provides yukatas and all toiletries you might need. The hotel onsen is small but nice and also has an outdoor bath. The hotel spa is very relaxing with a variety of services. I did not have dinner at the property but breakfast was very good. Every staff member I encountered was extremely professional, courteous and friendly. My only complaint is the mattress was very firm and I prefer some thing softer but that is a personal preference.

Wonderful, old world style hotel that is immaculately renovated. Excellent updated onsen. Convenient shuttle bus. Perfect view, charming grounds... I only wish we were here during azalea season as the grounds are full of them. The Japanese breakfast was first class, not the standard fare, in a Frank Lloyd Wright -ish dining room. The lobby has a fireplace which lends a nice smell to the lounge area overlooking the lake. The staff were perfect.

Stayed here for two nights to explore Odawara/Hakone wished we'd had more time because the area is really interesting. Rooms are generous and all have a view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji. The landscaped gardens offer interesting winding walks. Room rate includes a five course evening meal which was of a very high standard. There is a courtesy bus to the pier/bus stop but it doesn't start until 9:00 in the morning. Don't book an early train from Odawara.

My wife and I made a last minute booking once finding 2-3 days of weather forecast. The views were great in the clear weather. Probably because our stay was on weekdays in the low season, I was always the only one in the hotel onsen. I saw a man in a massage sofa in men’s locker room, just once. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the French restaurant, as well as cakes and coffee at the lounge.

We had a two night stay as part of our tour around Japan at the RWC 2019. The hotel is in a lovely setting close to and above the lake, the gardens would be wonderful if you are there when the bushes are in flower. Mount Fuji can be seen early in the morning before the clouds build up. its an easy and scenic walk into Hakone and takes about 15 minutes. Breakfast in the hotel is a set menu and cooked fresh - unusual for Japan but very nice. We had a traditional Japanese evening meal and a western meal in the hotel both were excellent. Drinks are the usual price in Japan and note the bar does not stay open late - 9 o clock close. We had our first experience of an Onsen bath and is something not to be missed. In all a lovely visit.

Beautiful grounds with views of lake Ashi. Calm and Serene setting great for unplugging from civilization or getting away from Japan big cities. Rooms are a good size, beds are comfortable, free WiFi, no complimentary water bottles in the room though. This hotel is surrounded by nature and has its own onsen bath both in the female locker room and in the man locker room. No bathing suits in the onsen and no tattoos. Spa with all kinds of treatments but a bit on the pricey side. Great high quality food is found here at the Japanese or french restaurants. Service is impecable, the staff is very helpful and pays attention to detail. Great place to recharge your batteries and close enough to all the activities Hakone has to offer.
