I spent 2 nights at this ryokan in Nikko. It was a great contrast from the hectic pace of Tokyo, and I wanted to enjoy a traditional ryokan as I had loved staying in ryokans in Kyoto and Miyajima in the past, but there are few 'true' ryokans in Tokyo. There are several ryokans in Nikko, but Tokanso is a...

+ Very friendly personnel. Great to experience the Japanse culture, which is clearly explained. Good shuttle service from and to the station. - The 'futon' was quite thin, we found it hard to have a really good sleep on it. visited 14 april 2013

Staff doesn't speak English very well, but are really trying to and are really helpful. Location is very good, you can wall to all the temples and shrines. We had the breakfast and the diner, which are both traditional Japanese cuisine and are delicious. Dinner wasn't included but it's worth to make a reservation; we really really liked it!! Location...

Perfect position for walking to the main shrines area. Original ryokan style and atmosphere. Rich Japanese style breakfast (no alternative). The structure needs some renovation, only the tatamis and the comfortable public bath are new. Transport from and to the station available, the walk is quite long and boring (straight to the bridge and the climb the stairs as a...

I only stayed for one night and I found this hotel merely adequate. The location is fantastic for visiting the local shrines and the building and rooms have a lot of character. The main thing lacking is a bit more English language and interest from some of the staff members. Compared to other places I’ve stayed at in Japan, many...

I stopped in Nikko for two nights to break my journey flying from London to Sydney. Catching the train from Haneda Airport to Nikko on arrival, and from Nikko to Narita for my onward journey was easy (the website www.hyperdia.com clearly explains the routes and where to change trains). Nikko, and nearby Lake Chuzenji, is one of the most beautiful...

I loved this hotel! We took a train from Tokyo to Nikko and this hotel is really easy to find. You jump on the bus outside the station and it drops you right outside. It is a traditional japanese ryokan so you leave your shoes at the front door and the staff don't speak a lot of English, however they...

This Ryokan has large and comfortable Japanese rooms. It was a peaceful stayed after the bustle of Tokyo. It is well located to the key sights and about a ten minute bus ride from the Nikko Stations. The staff and helpful and friendly. A very nice touch is that all guests names are written and displayed at the entrance way...

I stayed at Nikko Tokanso for one night in mid-April 2014 along with my twin brother and my retired parents during a family anniversary trip to Japan. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in a peaceful, traditional Japanese style hotel close to the famous temples and shrines Nikko. This is the perfect spot for you!...

Nikko Tokanso was a wonderful experience! It was our second day in Japan, and we felt that we were experiencing something of days gone by! A traditional ryokan, it was shoes off at the door, and a chance to try authentic Japanese life. Our room was big and comfortable. We had a view of the river from our window. It...
