The welcome by the personnel was not equal from one person to another one: from amazingly impolite to only acceptable. The worst address out of the 10 hotels & ryokans I've done in Japan.

I booked three nights accommodation at Nikko Park Lodge after reading their website. I was interested in this so called 'monk' hostel that it describes. However, during my time at the hostel, I discovered that the monk no longer works there. In his place are two nice enough (but very westernised Japanese men; this may be a good or bad...

In the guides this hotel is described as reasonably priced and as run by English speaking monks. The owner indeed speaks excellent English but is far from being a monk. He sure likes to make money of tourists. The place is reasonably priced, yes, but for every extra (even extra towels, internet access by minute) you are being charged quite...

If you live in Tokyo and need a long weekend away, this is your spot! I went back half a dozen times in my 3 years living in Tokyo and always came back refreshed. The two men who run the lodge lived in California for 10 years, so speak excellent English and understand the needs of their American customers. They...

We picked Nikko Park Lodge because it looked to be the best reviewed out of the budget accommodation in Nikko and not a bad price. Although there was nothing outrageously bad about the place, it wasn't really a place we'd rush to go back to. The good bits: * The location, though in the middle of nowhere, was very pretty...

We didn't like this hostel at all. We arrived around 5 to check in and were greeted by 3 different people, then rudely pushed aside to wait. The monk is extremely RUDE, as well as the other employees. The location is awful because you have to walk very very far up hills and into the woods (with nothing nearby). The...

As a chaperone for a U.S. boys choir, I have stayed at many hostels in Europe. I found the Nikko Park Lodge to be the best hostel I have stayed at, mostly because of the friendly and accommodating staff. My single ensuite room had a double bed, TV with DVD player, and AirConditioning that worked very well (which was truly...

I booked a female room for two nights. When I arrived at the hotel, they told me there was only mixed room available. I agreed to stay in the mixed room because I had spent half hours walking from the Tobu Nikko Station to the hotel. I didn't want to walk anymore. However, I was extremely shocked when I found...

We stayed there for 1 night. The location is quite a bit of walk from JR Nikko station, probably around 25 mins uphill. They do provide free shuttle, but only if you arrrive between 3-5pm. We didn't use the service because we arrived in the morning. The lounge room is quite cosy, and it has a TV and a few...

The lodge was too far away from the town for us and not close to anything other than bush. It is about a 1.5km walk into Nikko which is OK in the daylight but I would not want to do it at night. The walk from the station to the lodge is uphill so with 2 cases and a bag...

“I had a private room at the very end of the hallway away from the common areas which was very quiet and the surrounding neighborhood is very quiet in a somewhat forested area. No problem sleeping in the room. If Internet is important, then rooms closer to the common area might be a better location.”
