The location of this hotel is superb. It is literally a five minute walk to the Nikko shrine complex and this allows you to be at the complex when they open at 8am before the crowds. The hotel itself is flawless, but be sure you know what you are getting. And that is a real Japanese experience, from the tatami...

This has been my first ryokan ever so I have no others to compare with. Overall, for a reasonable price we had very nice japanese stile room - big and well furnished, with toiled; in room japanese dinner experience (very good), japanese breakfast (bit akward for western :-) ). Service was really good - very little english spoken but enough...

We had stayed at a ryokan in Kyoto which had some hard futons and VERY unique food. This place proved to be different and was amazing. The futons were incredibly comfortable and the dinners were fantastic. From when we walked in the door, the service was great. Everyone was just SO nice! Each night we had someone walk us through...

Like the idiots that we were, we got on the wrong Rapid Service carriage from Tobu Asakusa station to Nikko. Our carriage uncoupled and went on a different branch on the line. We realised this after a while, and got off at the next stop. The hotel very efficiently arranged a transport to get us from that stop (20 minutes...

We enjoyed two nights at this lovely ryokan located adjacent to the Nikko shrine grounds. Dinners are served in your room and are a feast. Breakfasts are served in a lovely dining room lined with potted flowers. Public baths are pleasant and service was kind and welcoming. Shuttle service from the train station can be arranged. Pleasing walk down the...

We stayed this hotel for 2 nights in mid August including breakfast and dinners with traditional Japanese room. The dinners were served in our own room and the food is excellent and fresh. The location of this hotel is also convenient to world heritage shrines of Nikko. The room is spacious and clean for 4 of us (2 kids, 12...

I stayed at the Hotel Seikeon in February for one night. The setting was awesome in the Nikko Heritage site. A short taxi ride took us through the winding mountainous road. We walked a short distance from the JP railway station to the visitor information centre. The air is breathtaking crisp and cool. In keeping with the graciousness of the...

We booked a night at this hotel a month in advance because their website stated that they could prepare shojin ryouri (vegetarian) meals. They called us to tell us that they would not prepare food for vegetarians. When we mentioned their outdated website, they were quite rude. Needless to say, we cancelled our booking.

We stayed at Hotel Seikoen for two nights in December. It is very conveniently located to seeing world heritage shrines of Nikko. Our room was a very clean spacious tatami room. Bathroom is clean but a little outdated and same goes for the hallway and the lobby of the hotel. Dinner and breakfast are included into the price of your...

I urge anyone visiting Japan to try to visit the absolutely gorgeous mountain town of Nikko. The massive shrines there of Tokugawa Ieyasu from 1617 in the Edo period are some of the finest national treasures in Japan. An easy 90 mins by fast train from Tokyo or Shinjuku, we stayed at Hotel Seikoen, which is really a mix of...

“We wanted to experience a real traditional Japanese Ryokan style room, sleeping on the floor. The Yukata happi coats are fun - wear them whilst walking about in the hotel and spa area. We did not want to leave. All the shrines are 10 minutes walk up the hill - perfect! The town is down the hill, easy!”
