The nicest and most welcoming ryokan we did during our 2 weeks trip in Japan (back in 2014, took me a quite while to come back and rate it). Breakfast is amazing, rooms very pretty but mostly the host are perfect.

This is a fairly basic ryokan (inn) which our tour group was booked into. The traditional tatami room, with ensuite shower/toilet facilities, was small, bedding taking up most of the floor space. Having said that, the bedding was quite comfortable. The ryokan does not have a pool but has onsen on-site. In the large multi-purpose room we were treated to...

Tatami type of stay , reasonable pricing with good host . Owner of this place is an artist and calligrapher. Meals can be pre-arranged , very convenient to restaurant and working distance to all the amenities. 2 nights stay in ryokan stay is a great experience for foreigners like us .

We stayed at Ryokan Matsumae for one night. Our 8-tatami room was clean and equipped with its own sink and toilet. The staff members are very friendly and all speak good English. They stored our luggage for several hours before check-in, provided good directions and suggestions for restaurants, and were most helpful throughout our stay. We ordered an American breakfast...

Visited Nara in October 2015 and found this Ryokan. Staff is very helpful, location is great, very quiet so you can have a great night sleep. They also do Kyōgen performance. There is a bit of smell in the rooms but this seems to be the tatami' smell In my view this place is highly recommended

We stayed at Matsuri with our two kids (9 and 11 years old) and we were enchanted by our stay. The owner Naomi was extremely helpful in helping us plan our two-day visit to Nara, including maps and itineraries. She even recommended restaurants to go with the kids. The Ryokan is very atmospheric and it has a lot of little...

Great Ryokan in Nara, very good traditional Japanese breakfast, and extremely nice owner, which spoke very well English! I highly recommend it to visit the beautiful Nara, to sleep in a traditional way and be walking distance from all temples in the city.

The stay was nice and the location is very convenient. The food was special and delicious. The most specialty is the Koto performance and calligraphy workshop. There is also Kyōgen performance, but we couldn't make it, maybe next time!

Room: The room was nice and our futons were comfortable. There was ample storage to put our belongings away, and a small floor table and chairs. We had a private toilet and a small wash basin which was great, but the toilet room had a bit of a strange smell. Not sure what it was, but everything was clean, if...
