You can rent bicycles, although I think there are only a few. During the day, I went sightseeing around the castle park by bicycle and was able to see the atmosphere of the town.
The town seems very safe, so in the evening I walked from the hotel to Forum Morioka and enjoyed watching Mission: Impossible at the night show rate.
This is a clean and safe hotel.

I had breakfast and it was a great selection of food that included ice cream and many awesome spreads for my toast - spreads like peach and matcha butter and coffee butter.
Technically, I was allowed to check-in as early as 2pm, this is considered very early by any standard, not just in Japan, typically most hotel chains only allow check-in from 3pm or 4pm onwards. My room was a standard twin room, furniture are a little dated, but in general the room is well-maintained, and quite spacious by Japanese standard, offers a good view of Morioka station too, albeit diagonally. The hotel doesn't offer any complimentary bottled water, but you can grab them from vending machines located at the carpark level of the hotel (B1), or convenience store at Morioka station, or from MaxValu supermarket a further 500m walk away. Chargeable beverages (including mineral water) are also available inside in-room fridge, but they naturally cost a little more. Ice machine is located beside the lift, on every floor I suppose. My room comes with a 40" Mitsubishi LCD, a Sharp humidifier, Daikin air-conditioning system, in-room safe, as well as general appliances such as kettle, hairdryer etc. Wi-Fi connection was good even though it's a shared connection, and there are plenty power sockets. My bed is a Simmons Beauty Rest with two pillows, one a memory pillow, the other a soft pillow, it is obvious the hotel has a good emphasis on clients' comfort.
One little thing that fascinates me is the room key, it's not any magnetic card, the attached keychain is made of cast iron, known as Nanbu Tekki in Morioka, and is a local signature product. You place the whole bunch of key on the key rest to initiate the room's electricity supply, very unique! I felt like keeping it as a memorabilia (just kidding), but anyway, miniature cast iron souvenirs are available for sale at hotel lobby, but if you are keen on actual Nanbu Tekki products, you can find them in some souvenir shops inside Morioka station, or enquire from the Tourist Information Center there, who will be able to advise you on the well-known shops within the city or probably arrange for a factory visit.
Breakfast was at Giovanni (L2), who serves a good range of buffet breakfast that includes both Western and Japanese cuisines, plenty variety of juices and jam, and yummy ice cream for dessert. One thing I can't understand is that they didn't include Morioka's signature noodles, I suppose that's probably because Giovanni is basically a western style restaurant after all, and visitors to Morioka are spoilt for choices all around Morioka station anyway.
To conclude this review, I'll leave a statement like Arnie did in Terminator... I'll be back!
Don't mix up Metropolitan New Wing and Metropolitan main , it is two different hotel.
Nothing to complain, it is just business hotel as usual. The hotel is old fashion but room is bigger than other.

Location: Northeast side of Morioka train station, approximately 5 minutes walk from there. Morioka city center is approximately 15 minutes of walk from there.
Interior Decor: Decorated lobby. Guest room I stayed features good sense of furniture design and style. However, both the lobby and the guest room should be renovated/facelifted. It's been over 20 years since this hotel opened; it shows wears/tears.
Exterior Apperance: 11 story hotel in a commercialized area
Outside view from the room I stayed at (577): Central parts of Morioka city. Buildings across the street. Kitakami River.
Room Description: Twin. Need design renovation. Electric outlets are inconveniently located. No electric outlets near the bed. No USB outlets. Not designed to work with smartphone users.
Room Size: Approximately, 30 square meters. Generous size for Japanese hotel chains.
Room Cleanness: Clean. Furnitures show their age.
Room lights: A bit darker than desired.
Bathroom: Clean. Average size. Non-adjustable showerhead is pointing to an odd angle.
Noise Insulation: Average.
Price and Value: Reasonable Sunday night off season price considering the condition of the room and the location.
Breakfast: Good all you can eat buffet featuring some local Morioka food.
Bed: Firm softness. Slept fine.
We had wonderful stay as all my stays in Morioka have been our coordinator was named Mr. Endo who was beyond helpful. The hotel has some wonderful dining facilities and we could not have asked for more helpful staff at the hotel. Mr. Yoshida who was in charge of Mr. Endo's department was wonderful and was helpful to us as a translator as my Japanese is not so good. We had a wonderful time there and will be going back in the future.
Receptionist speak not bad english, very welcoming and easy check in process. Room is good size, very clean and a decent sized bathroom filled with free things. Road noise is non existant, rooms have free internet.
Hotel restaurant does a great fish banquet with excellent sake.
Would definitely stay again.
