Hotel Monterey Group brings a new hotel to Sendai (the City of Trees) called Hotel Monte Hermana. Meaning "sister" in Spanish, the name could also mean Princess Mountain since Monterey derives its name from King's Mountain. The Spanish connection is particularly appropriate in Sendai, as the city's founder, the samurai Masamune Date, funded a rare expedition to Spain in the Middle Ages. This relationship between Spain and Sendai is reflected in the design of the hotel.

I cannot deny the convenience that the location of the hotel brings, just a few steps to Sendai station. We travelled a lot during the 4-night stay at the hotel so we didn't have the chance to enjoy all facilities that the hotel offered except for the bathhouses. After a long day of sightseeing and walking a lot, what would be better than soaking in the hot tub, right? But what frightened us the most there was mould. Mould grew everywhere on the walls, in the showerheads, on the floor, you name it. It felt a little bit slimy slippery while strolling around the place. We informed the onsen receptionists working there of the poor condition of the hot springs right after the bath. We thought they would clean it the next day because the bathhouses are only open from 7 p.m until midnight. They had plenty of time. We waited for 2 days to see how it would turn to be but nothing at all was done. It's not just that, we didn't even turn on the TV because the remote was covered in grease and dirt. Sendai is great. I would love to come back one day, but I would say no to this hotel.

The hotel is about 200 m from the main station with many restaurants and shops. At the station, one of the main shopping malls starts towards the city. Very friendly personnel, complimentary coffee, juice and water from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the lobby. Free WiFi. Very clean rooms, daily cleaning, fridge. Portable free mobile phone with google maps etc. in the room, very helpful in Japan for foreigners. The room was not too large for two persons, but o.k. For working with the PC, I went to the lobby. Very good breakfast, cooked and continental. Hot spa in the ninth floor (Japanese style), but we did not try, Vending machines on the floor, including beer, whiskey-soda etc. We would certainly come back again.

The hotel is not very new or modern, but well located, only a short walking distance to Sendai station on the elevated pedestrian walkway. You will find the hotel lobby on the 2nd floor. The room was rather small, but well equipped & the bed was clean and comfortable. The view from the window was on a metal panel. There was an air cleaner, but the room still smelled of smoke. The bathroom had all amenities. The breakfast selection was good with both Japanese and western dishes. Hot coffee was avalaible in the afternoon in the lobby, which I appreciated.

This is the second time I have stayed here. It is a very nice hotel, conveniently close to Sendai station. You can walk there easily (avoiding all the traffic) using the above ground walk way straight through to reception. Using the same walkway you can also access shopping too. The rooms are very comfortable and have some nice features.

Walking distance from Sendai Station. Located just behind AER Building, walk from level 2 towards Parco and AER thereafter. The hotel lobby is on the 2nd floor. Room looks new. Breakfast is good. Small hot spa and it was pretty crowded during my stay. Cold and hot beverages available from 3 - 9pm at lobby. Overall highly recommended for location, price and quality of stay.
