The lodge is situated a couple of Km's off the good tar road leading from Zomba Town to the plateau. You leave the road and follow a dirt track along the mountain side, through a wooded area to the isolated house. We were greeted by Tom, the owner and his two dogs Saxon and Loki. Tom runs the lodge with...

Myself and my wife lived in Malawi for a year and visited many of the restaurants and lodges in Malawi. ZFL was definitely our favourite with the best food and a fantastic location. The lodge is beautifully set on Zomba Plateau, and has a lovely home-away-from-home feel. The owners Tom and Petal warmly welcomed us with a G&T before we...

Unless you are an internet addict in search of adrenalin, this place is paradise. What a beautiful sanctuary in the heart of Zomba. The owners, Petal and Tom, are kind, friendly and charming; they pay meticulous attention to detail, making guests feel totally relaxed and at home. The decor is impressive, consisting of many of their own pieces of art...

At the end of a long, windy road, past villages of tree loggers we eventually arrived at this small, beautiful, remote and quiet haven, with its extensive gardens, plants and paths and spectacular views, The food was absolutely delicious and the evenings were spent in front of the open fire, chatting and playing games. Our family party of 6 rented...

An electricity-free adorable little lodge, home for the owners-managers themselves, set on the ridge of Zomba Plateau amidst beautiful gardens and surrounded by charming paths inside the forest. The food is unique and outstandingly tasty, the owners are helpful but not pushy, and the one word that comes to mind is heaven. There's no doubt we'll come back.

Not our first trip to this lodge and certainly not our last, this particular sojourn was as special as always! Tom & Petal, the amazing hosts, manage to make every guest feel as if they are friends of the family. Staying in their lovely, art filled home is always a delight - the extensive gardens are a haven for birds...

We, a family group of six, felt this was a very special place and we felt fortunate be be able to "share"Tom and Petal's home for a couple of days. No electricity, but candles, solar lights and an open fire are much better! And what fantastic food! The location is wonderful and it's worth taking the time to explore the...

My wife and I concluded our visit to Malawi with three wonderful nights at the Zomba Forest Lodge (following a two-week stay at the Majete Wildlife Reserve campground where we were wildlife research volunteers). We are Americans in our fifties who travel yearly, alternating between trips to Europe and more remote and off-the-grid places such as Malawi. Along the way,...

What an extraordinary place this is. Colonial era lodge with charming, knowledgable hosts effortlessly exposing visitors to the mountain, vegetation, animals and birds. Professional quality with family atmosphere. Intimate but comfortable rooms and great food. Despite its wonderful isolation, transport is readily arranged by the hosts from Zomba or Blantyre. A great off-grid escape from modern life in-tune with the...
