We stayed for 1 night in August 2011.

After a bad experience at a hotel round the corner, the Meldrum was a welcome change. The room was sparkling clean. The floor tiles shined. It was a great location - right in the centre of town and close to all the hawker food.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

This is not a fancy hotel, but good value for money.

I chose this hotel because it did not get a room at the hotel that I ever stay before. Since it's only for overnight transit and I must check out in the early morning so I chose this hotel with good expectations like what I have experience in the other hotel nearby. When we checked in the receptionist and her superior were argued with a customer who is old. They still argued while the receptionist served us check-in. I feel sorry for the old man. I get a room that smells and musty. Bathrooms were not clean and the flashing toilet was not working properly. TV's channel is local TV channel only. The noise from outside was very loud even we closed the door and the window. Night time is the most miserable time, I could not sleep because of the noise and people talking and laughing outside very sound. if you still can look for another hotel better not stay at this hotel. very disappointing.

stayed here as its close to my Jobsite. usually i will stay at Citrus hotel. wanna try something new so picked up Meldrum.
During regiatration, front desk staff indirectly forced me to apply membership which i need to pay RM12. i could have stop her doing that but when i realize what they are doing, its already registered.
anyway, the bed is so so but the room filled with mosquito. a Big one literally. not a pleasant sleep.
During checkout the bill showed RM106 whereas the credit card receipt showed RM107. yes only RM1 but when i asked them why is the differences they said wait till the office open at 9am. Rudely asking me who is the one swiped my cc?
not going to stay here again.

Special mention to Lisa, Reception at the Hotel Front Office for her warm and welcoming service. The staff at the front office are friendly and nice. Meldrum hotel is located in the city center and their rooms are clean, comfortable, good service and nicely budget. We stayed in their standard suite room (contact hotel for reservation) it’s very nice and newly renovated (see pictures).

Scary that somebody opened my door 6:49 am without knocking! I was inside and my key cards were inserted for power so I wonder why does a security guard has a master key! i'm really sure i heard a female voice but the cctv showed a male security guard??!! There is really something wrong! I complained at the counter but it seems like nothing had happened. I'm just not feeling well so I'm extending one more night! I have lots of questions to ask before il check out!

I initially booked a standard room. I arrived to find that it was a smoking room, which I had not been informed of or agreed to. The room stunk of stale smoke and of durian. I asked to be changed to a non-smoking room, and was informed that I would have to upgrade to a more expensive room. Management would not upgrade me for free, despite me not being made aware that the room I had booked was a smoking room. I would normally have left, but I had come off a long sleepless flight which was the only reason why I stayed in the more expensive room. This room had stained sheets, which I had to have replaced several times before actual clean looking sheets arrived. No soap was in the bathroom.

Given the poor service and cleanliness standards, I would not recommend anyone stay here, particularly as it was not even cheap by local standards.

WOW....So good. Simple walking distance to JB Sentral, great service, clean rooms, and it's cheap!!!! Way cheaper to stay here and bus into Singapore everyday. A/C, hot shower, free water bottles, safe drinking water, elevator, free wifi, 24 reception, really close to everything in JB, perfect. Shared bathroom and no windows in room so set an alarm!

Definitly the cheaper option then staying in Singapore...... It's so expensive compared to JB. Even by commuting into Singapore every day it's still cheaper!

HOW TO GET TO SINGAPORE
- Easy, walk to JB Sentral.
- Go through customs, head to platform B
- Get on bus 160 or 170 (1.5MYR = 50 cents to Kranji Station)
- Get off at Singapore customs, fill out your customs card, go through, immediate right follow signs, back on bus 160 or 170)
- Get off at Kranji and get onto the MRT (Sky Train). it's a 2 S$ ride to the farthest station from there (Marina Bay)
- See whatever you wanna see get back on the MRT to Kranji and do it all again!

REMEMBER
In Singapore you pay for transport in S$ and in Malaysia you pay in Ringett. Same price, different conversions!

The food market right out side the hotel has a variety of amazing and cheap food as well, our favourite was the Indian place on the opposite side of the hotel! Laudry is also only 3MYR a KG but does take all day to do.

Taking the bus to Melaka the next morning, the big question for me was whether to stay the night in Singapore or go over the border to Johor Bahru, as I had heard some less charming things about the city of JB.
I chose the all-Malaysian option, and I am happy I did. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the city centre of JB, even late at night.
For my hotel in JB I chose the Meldrum, not a bad choice either. A very short walk from the border crossing, the deluxe room was decent value for money. Still the hotel was a bit run-down and had a quite a strong "budget hotel" feel about it, so I suspect that with the low prices in town a slightly pricier option in the same area might have been an even better choice.

This has got to be one of the worst hotels we've ever stayed in, in a prettty awful city. The 2 rooms we had were both run down, the bathroom plumbing was all rusted, the curtains & some of the blanket s had cigarette burns in them, some of the sheets had stains on them, the airconditioner (split system on the wall) had pieces missing from the fan, and the whole place stank of cigarette smoke (rooms, corridors) to the extent that it affected my son's breathing. Pretty sure there was a guy smoking at the end of the hallway as every time I opened the door to go to our other room, he was there and it reeked of smoke.
The town is also pretty crumby & dirty & the only time I felt safe was in the shopping centre which was very clean & modern. We were only staying here to go to legoland but once we found out late that night that it wasn't open the next day we quickly packed our bags in the morning and fled to Singapore where we picked a tour to Legoland a couple of days later.
