Terrible experience with huge disappointment as I have been there with my hubby few years back when the hotel is pretty new. I remember the first experience was very good as they provided me a free upgrade of room stay during my first experience and this time round we went back with my kid. I specifically stated my arrival time is ard 8pm-9pm which is already after normal checking hours so then we can have a smooth and quick check in. And yet when we arrived at the hotel at 7pm. They staff told us that our room is not ready??? And have to wait 5-10 mins. I said okie and we waited and waited until they came and ask if we are ok with single bed. I said no.(I specifically stated in Agoda request that I wanted a clean quiet room and large bed as it is mean for wedding anniversary vacation with my kid) then after 30mins of waiting and I see ppl that came later than me has already checked in!!! Again I went over to the staff and ask why do we have to wait so long and the reply was “cos you mentioned dun want single beds!” I was totally pissed by then, the reason why I booked in the first place is they have king size bed. And I would think that the staffs are being insensitive at this point as I alreDy mentioned both in my Agoda request that I want a large bed it’s mean for wedding anniversary and the staff is asking me to use single beds” and I also mentioned that this is being insensitive …and after of wad I mentioned the room is suddenly ready!??? When we went into the room it was also not to my standard expectation… there was dust everywhere and the toilet and furniture was poorly maintenaned bed sheets are stained and no bathroom mat and no hand towel is found. I dun even see the do not disturb sign for us to hang for the next day. It’s a huge disappointment since the hotel is at least 4/5 star hotel. It’s worst that even a 3 star hotel.

I've been to Thistle hotel for a few times already in the past year. Whenever i have trips into Johore due to it's location i've opted to stay in Thistle Hotel. But in recent times, the quality of my stay has been on a steep decline. Things i can "let go".... - whilst walking towards to the carpark at LG an incredibly strong stench is present in the hotel. - During Breakfast, i had to repeat my room number 6 times for the person to understand numbers. i spoke to Bahasa/English and still didn't do the trick. - The breakfast in recent times is abysmal, few options and majority of the food was left cold. Things i could not "let go". 1) Toilets in the basic room were an absolute horror, toilet bowl flush handle broke, started to leak water everywhere. Even the taps looked as if they've seen a couple of wars in their life. 2) The only person in the front desk team whom is half decent was a chap named Sam. 3) Final nail in the coffin, was given a room on the 6th floor. This room was booked under my name but it's clear that it already has a tenant. A family of cockroaches ! They were everywhere, when i opened the wooden cabinet to get some water, when i opened the toilet door ~ crawling on the door, when i was in the toilet ~ one of them tried to crawl on my leg. After reading some other reviews, i believe it comes as no surprise to Thistle Hotel that they have a roach infestation. I wish them all the best to dealing with it but i'd rather have a room pest free for my next travels into Johore.

Booked for 1 night. From outside, the hotel was ok. The check in process took very long. Almost 1 hour. The hotel is crowded despite of the negative reviews. The concierge gave a room and when we went to the room, the room was occupied (wtf!). Went back to the concierge and was given a new room, he said has been renovated. However when we got there, the door can be opened without a key and dear the room is very very old, the room, the bathroom and even the SDB is from 20 years ago. Decided to leave and looked for a new hotel without spending a night. Waste of 300RM.

No room service was provided during our stay. The food spread at Breakfast buffet was below average. Seemed more like they had reheated leftover food from the day before and some canned food for fruit cocktails and stuff. Food were very stale and cold. Got a very bad stomach ache and had to use the toilet immediately after eating breakfast. Their toilets doesn't come with bidet water gun, only water hose. Cockroaches everywhere, from baby ones to big flying ones. Furnitures were stained and looked dirty, did not feel comfortable sitting on it. Water kettle was dirty, requested for a new one. The new one we received was even filthier than the one we had in the room. We were literally counting down on the time to check out from the hotel as it seemed very unhygienic to stay. Pool was extremely filthy, filled with dried leaves. No one were seen swimming in the filthy pool. Do not be flattered by the images posted in their listing. Wonder how this hotel is named as the 5 star hotel. It barely can make it to 3 star.

Had reserved Candle dinner night on 15 Feb with confirmed booking via WhatsApp with hotel F&B Admin on the 13 Feb. I was flabbergasted when I was informed no reservation for me when I check during Lunch time. The service staff was so apologetic and asked me to wait till F&B Admin sort out. After waited for some time, F&B Admin called and message, they able to squeeze even though both restaurants are full on that day. Hours later, F&B Admin called me again to inform Main course menu Beef brisket is is not available and asked to change to Salmon which I agreed. I repeat to her Salmon and Lamb rack which she said is available. F&B Admin called me again to inform Lamb rack is not available and wants to change menu to Sirloin steak which this time, I did not accept it. This is what I called "Ridiculous" for what you are selling and the items is not available. I asked to cancel this reservation but she informed unable to as this is last minute reservation. "Hello"? This is not a last minute reservation but a confirmed reservation. F&B Admin suddenly message me that Chef able to prepare Lamb rack. "What!". This is terrible poor form of communication. In a 5 STAR HOTEL. The best part of all your F&B Admin can delete the conversation we had. WOW, WHAT A SERVICE FROM THISTLE. But unfortunately, I took a screenshot of our conversation. To the Management of Thistle, you really need to look into the department concern.

Standard time for check in is 1500hrs. Arrived at 1545hrs to check in but was informed that room is still not ready. Been waiting for 1/2 hour (at time of writing this) and still waiting for hotel personnel to ‘check’ room readiness. Booking was done on 1st January for today’s (27th January) 2 days stay

Good and comfortable stay. However we have a bad experience with this hotel. There is one lady receiption which is very rude the time we check in, she straightaway asked us to wait until 3pm without looking at our face, very arrogant and rude. She not even offering help to keep our luggage and act very busy. We got no choice but to sit at the lobby waiting for the allowed check in time, Few mins later, she went inside the room and no one at the receiption counter after 10 minutee. Suddenly 1 male receiption came out and looking at us, he then called us and asked what he can help. Suprisingly, he is very friendly and helpful enough, he check in for us and even provide best hospitality to us. We pay to stay at this hotel because we need a good hospitality and not to have a rude and unprofessional manner as the lady receiption. Hope management can look into this issue seriously. Everything is okay with the room, but our mood ruin by the rude lady receiption.

Very helpful Front Office staffs. The room is big and very comfortable. Unluckily, i found something which is not mine while searching my phone between the bed and drawer nearby. Hope after this staffs who are appointed to clean the room will pay more attention and aware of something that may hidden and unsee
