The rooms are teeny tiny but very very clean and functional. If you're expecting international standards and amenities, let me remind you, it is a boutique hotel at an extremely reasonable price but the services we got, beats any 5star hotel I've stayed in around the world.
Location - it's so close to Singapore, we literally "walked" into checkpoint and customs. NICE! Public transport was plenty and so convenient.
Overall, we slept very well, even on a busy school holiday weekend and the staff was top class.
Enter Grand Jade Hotel. We booked the suite for our first stay at the hotel. Check in was a breeze and we were attended by a sweet and polite Malay girl. Upon entering the room, we were pleasantly surprised by the sheer abundance of space, tasteful modern contemporary furnishings and the cleanliness maintained throughout the entire hotel. Adding on, the window in the room opens up to the view of the main road where the waterfront is currently being developed. I'm sure people will pay for the view when its all done up. The TV reception is fantastic, having most of the free to air channels in Malaysia and from Singapore so we were not bored stiff. We opted out for the simple breakfast as we prefer to walk to City Square (about 5 mins) and grab packed food to eat in.
In short, we are totally swept away by The Grand Jade Hotel. This is our new mainstay.
A water kettle with coffee tea and two water bottles is complimentary. Bathroom has toothbrush, shower cap, hair shampoo and homemade body and hand soap. Water pressure is okay, however during my stay the hot water is not hot at all, only hot for a minute or so.
Walking to JB Sentral, CIQ complex is an easy 10-15 walk from the hotel. Mostly shaded as we are walking under the bridge. I'll definitely recommend this place if you are on a transit and want to get to Singapore or just for a day trip there. As there were many cars passing there, walking back around close to midnight from the CIQ is okay.
The downside that I feel may bother some people is the thin walls. This area has lots of loud noisy cars and motorcycle 'mat rempits' and you can clearly hear them from your room. I was dead tired so it didnt bother me. As the walls are thin, you can also hear people outside and also the room beside you as I had the priviledge to hear sounds of hard love making pleasure from the room beside.
All in all, a comfortable stay for me
The hotel’s location is not bad, right across CIQ and JB City Square and very near to the crossway too. Unfortunately, it is situated right at the side of a very busy cross junction and you will hear the noise from the traffic at night if you have a road-facing room. The hotel doesn’t have any parking space, so if you want to park in front of the hotel on the city council parking spaces, you need to make sure you purchase the city council’s parking vouchers and display them on your vehicle. The hotel staff was not very helpful in this regard, informing me that I can park in front of the hotel and resulting in me getting a parking ticket. There is a private parking lot around the corner of the hotel where you can park your vehicle safely, with just a short walking distance from the hotel. However, the least the hotel could do is purchase some parking vouchers to offer/sell to the guests with vehicles (it seems there are only limited places to procure these parking vouchers according to the city council’s website).
It is a boutique hotel, so the layout of the hotel interior is minimalist - small lift, narrow corridors etc. Luckily our family room was still decently sized, with basic amenities and kept rather clean. The room does not have a cupboard, instead just providing a measly cloths hanging rack. Other than the noise from the road traffic, you might need to put up with noises from the corridor as in our case when some guests returned in the wee hours of the morning. The flow of hot water from the shower is inconsistent at times, so you might also need to deal with lukewarm water. The in-room WiFi is downright useless, so make sure you have sufficient mobile data for all your cyber needs. The breakfast provided, which was a surprise since it wasn’t included with our room was very, very basic. There were only some sliced bread, cereals, coffee and tea. After the first experience, we decided to just buy our breakfast elsewhere and have it in our room.
The room rate was actually quite reasonable for a family room, but I would probably look for other hotels for my next trip.
Its location near a road junction caused a lot of noise pollution which is worsened by the lack of proper sound barriers. I was given a ground floor room just behind the service desk (despite asking for a high floor when booking online). You can hear loud motorcycle exhaust blasting and conversations from the front desk in the wee hours, not a good experience if you are a light sleeper like me.
Poor attention to details marred my stay. A non-functioning water heater, poor TV signal and urinal stain on the toilet seat was rather disappointing. I usually leave a tip when checking out but not this time.
On a bright side, the front desk guy did help me switch to a stronger wifi network after I reported not getting any wifi signal.
I arrived in the middle of the night n they still gave me a fresh service, and the room was fullset ready as expected.
Actually The location was good enough for walking distance to some shopping malls, but since the pedestrian was not a baby-stroller-friendly so i choosed grab to go anywhere.
When we run out the drinking water in the room, they provided us for free.
