Most taxi drivers will not know JO Hotel, it is better you tell them the old "Tropical Inn". This building is old but is still under renovation for more improvement like lift and restaurant etc. We have the family's room for 4 pax which is big and clean. The room has a separate sitting area and bedroom with good aircon, tv, fridge, kettle, wifi, comfortable bed and bathroom with all necessities. The only downside is there is no eateries in the area, but not a big problem as you are able to do a short walk to Komtar, City square and Night market. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Overall, a good place to stay if you love shopping area this area.

I assume this hotel as a budget hotel because there is no breakfast.Cafe open from 1030 (if not mistaken) until 3pm.
Finding eatery places is not a big issue since there are few restaurant nearby. In fact you can have your breakfast or dinner at the 5 star hotel nearby.

Room is comfort & clean. You have to go to front desk to get drinking water & tissue since they do not have enough housekeeping staffs. This is the setback service provided by the hotel

You can park your car either at open parking area or basement.

Since its not hassle for us to look for foods, we consider to come again to this hotel.

Neat and clean inside the room and outside.

Bath towels, bedsheets were white and clean.

Safe, aircon, water heater, kettle, television, toilet bowl were functional.

Pleasant view from the room (22nd storey).

15 min walk from Checkpoint Immigration Johor Bahru.

6 min walk to nearby shopping malls and eateries.

Spacious restaurant situated at the hotel lobby. Did not dine there.

The package I booked did not include breakfast.

2-night stay. No housekeeping was done on the 2nd day.

Was woken up during the 5 am prayer session (mosque located beside the hotel).

The online internet price was so attractive. Be prepared once you check out there will be a lots of extra charges, from government tax, service tax, front desk service charge and also guest parking need to be paid. seem like i was been cheating on this. Better walk in to get a real price.

I was looking up the Internet for a cheap hotel with an internet connection for my internet-addicted husband, and found Tropical Inn. I booked online and found it a convenient and simple process. The hotel itself was trickier to find - we drove up and down the length of Jalan TAR and Jalan Trus before we could find Jalan Gereja, but once we did find it, we realized it was definitely conveniently located to the Causeway to Singapore and to town. The basement parking was dirty, smelly, and dark but the external parking was convenient to the entrance.

Checking in was quick and simple, though they did a funny business of charging my credit card for RM300 and refunding it back. Apparently to check its validity. The elevators were old and slow and the corridors smelt musty and you could hear thumping noises from inside various rooms, but the room itself was pretty good for its price - clean and functional. The internet and the TV worked fine too. Despite the lack of insulation within the corridors, inside the room, we heard nothing from the other rooms. We slept pretty well. Sadly, the breakfast was ordinary fare, and some of it was almost inedible.

I'd say it was almost exactly what we expected and we got our money's worth. The only thing I would ask to improve would be the basement parking, as sometimes the external parking would be full and we would be forced to park in the basement, which was really, genuinely awful.

I stayed two years at the Tropical Inn from August 2002 to December 2004 while working in Johor Bahru, it might only be two star but the food is good and the company at the Gold Bar is great, Thursday night appy hours are the best. Ask for Chief Woon.

The owners spent quite a some of money in 2004 on renovations to the downstairs, coffee shop, lobby and bar, plans are in for renovation to the bedrooms.

Johor Bahru was a wild town just across the causeway from Singapore, a bit quite these days but the entrance to Malaysia from Singapore.

Best part is, I met my wife there during a conference.

This is the place we frequently stay at everytime visiting Johor Bahru. My family and I stayed here for one night over the last weekend.

The location of this hotel is definitely a place. We got a room facing JB city and Singapore which was superb. My kids really enjoyed the view. The room was clean and comfortable. Room service was good and checking in and out was fast.

One of the major letdown of this hotel is the breakfast. There was no variety and the food tasted stale. We actually couldn't eat anything and so we decided to have our breakfast at a nearby Indian restaurant. I would recommend you to skip the breakfast at the hotel and opt for restaurants nearby.

Another problem was that noises could be heard from the streets at night. A bit difficult for the light sleepers to fall asleep.

I wouldn't mind staying here again. Overall it's a good place to stay. The price is also reasonable.
