We could not have found you a better hostel in Kuching othrr than Backpacker`s Stay in Chinatown! Our hostel is located right in the heart of the bustling Chinatown, offers endless entertainment, eateries and shopping options. All other necessary amenities and public transport systems are also located our doorstep.
Tried re-booking flights using EMD credits, appalling customer service from the Global Customer service centre. Disconnected three times for "technical reasons" then the last operator claimed poor sound quality and asking to call me back immediately after taking all my details but no returned phone call despite him reading my number back to me perfectly. Seems MAS are not willing to help customers use their credits. Beware.

I stayed in the female dorm and this place is among the cheapest places to stay. Comfortable, worth it and the staffs are approachable too. The location is also near to a few 24-hours marts. Will definitely come again in the future!

I've stayed there couple of nights and found it quite comfy! All the staff members were really kind and always up for a chat! When it comes to "things to do" you better ask 'the guy with the long hair' aka 'the legend' (haha). He was really helpful and honest with me and made a lot of suggestions. He did even show me the busstop to Bako National Park - pretty awesome! So if you need any advice for the area and what to do: this is your place to stay. The hostel itself is convenient,as its close to the waterfront, the post office,a big shopping mall and a lot of restaurants and souvenir shops. It was clean and the facilities were working good.Same for the aircon (singleroom) and the WiFi!They even offer a computer for free usage! The only thing that I've noticed: some nights it was quiet and some nights it got a bit noisy, cause there is a big restaurant and terrace ,where ppl sit an eat, next door. And you might hear ppl talking till late. But as I said before:this place is quite good and not too expensive either.Would definitely come back one day!…

We were so impressed with how genuinely helpful the receptionist was- he helped us to organise a trip to Belaga through his own contacts. He really made our time here special! Real legend! Hostel vibe perfect for quick stopovers. They organise tours etc also

the main point of this hostel is the location. just a step away from the plaza merdeka and kuching waterfront. located in Carpenter Street near the chinese gate and next to local foodcourt. convinience store is aslo just across the hostel. the hostel itself is pretty convinient. i took the single room and for me its quite spacious and clean. they gave you blanket and towel for shower. clean bathroom and toilet. the staf also friendly specially the uncle. one of the nicest uncle i ever met in malaysia. and of course it cheap! i'll be back for sure.

Firstly, I would like to comment about the staff. They're nice and friendly person. Helpful. Smile most of the time. The important is, they're nice person. And of course, most of them are fluent in English. I love the shower amneities. The soap/shampoo is not the regular cheap like product that make your hair freeze, like the usual in any other hotel. This one here is different, it's just good. Shows that they really do care about their guests. The water heater in shower room and air conditioner inside the room works splendidly as they were supposed to. The toilet is good, mostly clean all the time. There's just one thing, the mattress is a bit soft, which is not too comfortable at first (but this is in my expectation, since it is a budget hotel after all). But, it doesn't mean that you are not able to sleep on it. Since I tours around town a lot, then it is not a big problem to me, as I only use it when I wish to sleep. They have small kitchen there, it is comfortable. Free water to drinks, hot water for instant cup noodles, and any other basic thing like cup and such. They always have bread available to be eaten if we want to, and toaster to make it more delicious. Well, I am satisfied with my stay there. For adventurer, this might be one of the best deal you can have. :-) oh yes..they offered free wifi as well. Never use it though as I have my own, but I believe that the speed is great! :-D…

We only stayed in this hostel for one night in the mixed dorm. Beds were comfortable, showers clean and hot, and toast for breakfast. Our room unfortunately backed on to the reception though, so we heard EVERY sound from people walking through. The room unfortunately doesn't have a window either but the A/C works a treat! There were however funkier places close by for the same price. Location is perfect on Carpenter St, next door to a great food hall, bars and the river. The staff at the front desk were the highlight. You can ask them any questions about nearby attractions, how to get there independently and cheaply on your own.
