Detailed Reviews
Booked a treehouse for a long weekend which was great but in need of some gentle renovation to keep the accommodation in keeping with nearby competition. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The on-site restaurant, the feeding tree, has a beautiful outlook over the ocean and is a perfect spot to view the sunset. The amenities on offer at the resort will suit hikers, beach lovers and adventure seekers. Would recommend hiring a car to give you the freedom to head into Kuching as the shuttle bus provided isn't particularly convenient and grab/taxi charges will become expensive.
Overall, a great weekend getaway.

We stayed in one of their tree houses and loved the experience. The resort is nestled in the jungle right on the coast and we saw a couple of proboscis monkeys swinging through the trees right in front of our tree house as well as an endemic Borneo skink on our balcony. We did the jungle hike to a nearby waterfall which was a highlight of our Malaysia vacation. The room also included breakfast and dinner making the price even more attractive. But don't expect modern 5-star accommodations, that's not what this place is about. Think of it as jungle camping but with a roof over your head, a toilet and air-conditioning :-). If you have the right expectations, this hotel is a good choice.

This hotel was used by our travel agency as basis for exploring some nearby parts of Sarawak. Apart from the wonderful Sarawak Cultural Center, which is 5 minutes walk away, you will need transport arranged as it is well outside Kuching and adjacent towns. The location insiode a rainforest reserve is wonderful and the (almost natural) rainforest pool original. We had a large treehouse which was spacious, well serviced and very clean. Definitely the best aspect of this hotel. The staff are very nice and committed but somewhat inexperienced. However, the restaurant was well below our usual standard, mainly serving - at best average - buffet food. One evening we were apparently the only guests and got to chose from the a la carte menu which was quite a step up in quality and presentation.

Nice spot but our room was infested with rats, ants and mould. There were food crumbs every and the fridge stank of rotten sambal.
This place would be amazing if they put some effort into maintaining it, or at least cleaning it.

This place is fantastic. We stayed in a private treehouse in the rainforest overlooking the beach.
Sightings from our room included daily probiscus monkeys, flying lemur, macaques, numerous birds, insects, and squirrels.
There are two beaches with kayak rental, guided walks and kayaks and a restaurant overlooking the beach. There are also high ropes and climbing activities. There are hikes through the rain forest to a waterfall and the blue pool.
We came in low season and it was a quiet paradise. The staff are amazing and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
All Kuching based tours pick up from here so once you’ve seen the city having a few days living in paradise is highly recommended.

I am not sure how this place has 4 stars; our time must have been just very unlucky however I thought I should share our experience. The resort touts that it is eco-friendly, I am all for that, but I do not think it is acceptable for the staff to let the squirrels take food from the breakfast buffet. Also, eco is not an excuse for poor maintenance, and poor hygiene of restaurant tables, they could and should be cleaned after every customer.
Housekeeping: we asked reception to have our bed linen changed and roomed cleaned since we were booked for 4 nights. We also put the sign on the bed requesting the linen to be changed. Upon returning to our room the bed had been re made however the linen was not, the dirty dishes were left on the table and the floors upswept.
We had booked for 4 nights, we only stayed for 3!
There are some positives, staying in the rainforest is lovely, you will regularly see monkeys, and it is very peaceful.

Stayed with my family (with one child) in one of the treehouses. While the accommodation can be improved, the experiences we had at Permai Rainforest Resort are great. My daughter can't stop talking about it and she looks forward to our next stay. We saw a proboscis monkey and a family of silverleaf monkeys from our balcony. We frolicked at the two beaches they have as well as splashed around in the jungle pool. Maybe we try the trail next time and maybe even try the kayaks. The cafe is overlooking the sea. They offer a simple menu but the food are tasty and the people are nice, friendly and accommodating. The resort is over 30 years old but the rainforest it is set in is 70 million years old which is simply amazing!

Worst place to visit to not even to stay in. Dissappointed with the staffs, no staff to handle our request only one housekeeper and one technician and they even got discrimination by this rude owner. not even got intercom and no security guard at all. Very poor in facilities, leaking, electricity poorly maintained, Dirty and and cafe serve bad taste. You may have other hotels and other places in kuching to visit to except this one. Not recommeded at all. I wish i cude give negative rate

The rooms are basic but the price reflects this. Rooms are just beds and Aircon, shower and toilet. Some are up in the treetops we were back in the jungle a bit. Both are nice the treetops
Look more romantic but then you have to contend with 4 flights of steep stairs. I really didn’t care about the rooms because the rainforest and the beach are just magnificent! Bonobo monkeys and silver leaf monkeys are easily spotted. Tonnes of birds and other wildlife. Beautiful little creeks running into the sea. Warm sea and cold mountain creeks . There is a natural pool that is filled by a creek that is very refreshing to swim in ( man made but very natural feel with heaps of shade from the jungle canopy. The food was ok at the restaurant… go for the Malaysian dishes are the best but the Ang Mo food is good as well. If you want cheaper food there is a hawker Centre / food court about 1 k away. No ATM in the area ( need to head back towards Kuching for that) but Permai take cards. I’ve stayed at Damai resort before but this place blows it away. Just such a lovely place to be in. As a comparison Damia is expensive and rundown whist this place is magical. No booze if you want booze there is a shop at the hawker complex and also a 7 /11 for snacks. Also the natural pool has 1 goldfish living in there … hilarious! Kids called him DeepFry.

A husband and wife spent 1 night in the permai rainforest . The treehouse was compact with air con and flowing water . The view was out towards the sea and surrounded by trees . We were about 12 metres above ground level .
Near us was a food house , an open air location with kitchens on site.
There was a path thru the forest and yes you did see Monkies and orangutan in the trees .
You can hear them calling each other .
There are 2 large hotels nearby - one of those is empty the second had a few tenants in a hundred room hotel .
There are some fairly defunct shops nearby ... consists of two 7/11 shops . The nearby beach is nice - but mostly empty .
We were here for 2 nights but cut it short
The best bet was to ask staff working in the forest near you - they were great help

No big issue at all. But take sensible precautions
I believe so, but I didn't check the GPS to pinpoint exactly where we were.
Yes the transport will pick you up at the hotel. The trip is organised by the hotel itself ... I believe min. 2 guests to run.
