I stayed here recently for 2 nights with my family and it's a lovely little place. Easy to find and close to the markets and not far from the beach and harbour. The staff are very friendly and welcoming especially Mohammed. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the views were good. The roof terrace is lovely and you can...

This is really one of the most stunning locations I've ever stayed in, the Dar (not a Riad as there is no courtyard) is fantastic. Its a very old building that's built into the ramparts, very high with about 4 stories so not suitable for disabled. Its incredibly atmospheric, there is really nothing better than watching the sun set t...

This traditional unspoilt riad is in an excellent location, on the outer walls of the medina. Our room, on the third floor, had magnificent views out to sea, the waves crashing on the rocks below. Just above, the roof top terrace, with panoramic views, was an exceptionally pleasant place to sit and read ; eating breakfast here was an absolute...

This quiet little place is close to all of the main sites, with great sea views from the room and rooftop terrace. where you can have mint tea or breakfast. The room was clean and the breakfast substantial. Unfortunately, the wifi included in the room fee did not work in our room.

This small, ancient guest house is on the outer wall of the medina and our small window overlooked the waves crashing on the rocks. We watched gorgeous sunsets and sunrises from the terrace, overlooking the town and the ocean. The small room was very quiet and isolated from the others. The bed was hard though and it was difficult to...

The hotel is so traditional which gives a special environment. The facilities were so clean. The room and the bed were comfortable. The service and included breakfast were really good; employees were so friendly. But, since it is inside the medina, it was a little bit difficult to find. The internet signal did not reach the room. No heater on...

WE LOVED this place!! oh my!! I can't say enough about it!. Quaint, comfortable, friendly. Our room overlooked the harbor and we had windows we could open wide and hear the ocean crashing against the rocks all night- so peaceful. There was a roof top area to sit and enjoy the view, the air, the night sky. WE enjoyed a...

Anyone going here thinking it's a Riad, be disabused, as its name indicates it's not. We paid a premium for a sea view, which we got from one of the 3 windows...half finished construction sites from the other. The house was cold and damp, 1 December, and the hostess seemed surprised by our request for a heater, a rusty radiator...

We really liked this hotel. Our room was cosy and had a fabulous view. Beautiful bathroom! The roof top terrace was lovely and we spent a bit of time up there enjoying the quiet sunshine. I'm not typically a seagull fan but it really was mesmerizing watching them soar beside us on the roof top. Breakfast was lovely and the...

Really lovely riad, and with warm welcome hosts. We arrived last week, with no booking. However as off season there was no issue getting a room with a beautiful view. Clean , and lovely room. Hosts were most friendly and welcoming. Location is super , central but quiet. And the breakfast on the rooftop was perfect. Highly recommend - really...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dar Al Bahar is certainly the name it deserves: the house by the sea.Built on the ramparts of the city of Essaouira in the "San Dion" area, she faces the ocean and its trade winds. From the terrace the view is one of constant movement, winds breaking against the rocks of the coast, offering an amazing spectacle. From there, you can also enjoy the panoramic view over the medina with its northern fort of the ancient Scala and the Mellah (the former Jewish quarter). In the distance, you can see the sand dunes, which actually touch the northern outskirts of the city. Jean-Claude and Lise, a french-dutch couple, have completely renovated this house which was built at the turn of the last century. At that time, this part of Essaouira was much more animated thanks to the presence of an authentic windmill which formerly provided flour for the city and the back country. At this place, a new hotel has been built but the street name remained: Touahen, which means ‘mill’ in Arabic.Today, the peacefulness of this place is only disturbed by breaking waves and shrieking seagulls.During October 13-17, 2012, the town of Essaouira witnessed the filming of parts of the third season of "Game of Thrones", the popular medieval fantasy series. On October 15, some of the scenes were filmed on our street and near Dar Al Bahar, both almost magically transformed in a medieval set by the crafty crew, some of them also being our guests in the hotel. For the current and future fans of the series, we share some of our photos of the stars, extras and set, and, for those wishing to experience the "Game of Thrones" atmosphere, we look forward to having them of our guests. You will certainly have a pleasant stay in Dar Al Bahar ! ... more   less
