.....hopefully not much! To say the Itapua has seen better days would be an understatement. The decor is decidedly threadbare and the spartanly furnished rooms could best be described as ramshackle. For a short stay though it suited our needs fine, just don't expect the Ritz.

We selected this hotel as it is close to the bus terminal, and frankly the price is great $18 US a night! (not inc. breakfast). When we arrived the front staff man was friendly. This was our second hotel in Encarnacion. Itapua Hotel is located close to the bus station. It’s a big building with a lot of rooms on several floors. It made me think about the inside of a prison. The room was small with a small window , a double bed and a single bed. The bathroom was small as well...

The hotel is located not even one block from the main bus terminal and just a few blocks from the town’s center, Plaza Artigas. The area felt safe during the day and in the evening.
