The Shangri-La Mactan is an older hotel, but still probably the best resort in Mactan/Cebu. The grounds are immaculately maintained, and the service is pretty excellent. The hotel was built in the early 90s, and while the rooms and the facilities are well maintained, the age is beginning to show. The rooms, at least in the wing I stayed in, could use a remodel, particularly the bathrooms (my biggest criticism was the ceiling in the bathroom above the shower ā it was kind of gross). However, the hotel overall is in good condition and all the common areas (pool, grounds, etc) are beautiful.
Before I arrived, the hotel sent an email asking if we wanted any add-ons, one of which was a welcome package with balloons in the room. I asked if they could customize this package for my partner as it was his birthday, and while they never confirmed that they would, I was very pleased when I came into the room and they had left him a birthday cake and a card. A very very nice touch, and reasonable at about 2000PHP.
The hotel beach, while manmade, is probably the best of all the resorts in Mactan. The water is clear and is roped off in zones for safety for kids, snorkelers, etc ā which I thought was very smart. It is a little rocky, but the hotel provides water shoes for free which I also thought was very smart and appreciated. There are two swimming pools, one is huge with a slide and full of kids, another is smaller and deeper (but still a good size), and geared more towards adults although kids are welcome.
We also booked jetskis during our stay, which was the only time I complained. We booked them at 2:00pm, however after we filled out all the paperwork (waiver etc), we were told that they were broken and the activities desk had no idea when they would be fixed, but that they would come get us if we could use them. I then complained via whatsapp to the hotel customer service (which is a very useful tool that the hotel uses for communication), and within about twenty minutes the jetskis were back and ready for use as we were informed via the whatsapp customer service. While I understand things happen, I think we should have been informed there was a problem before we had filled out all the paperwork and wasted fifteen minutes standing at the desk when someone knew that the jetskis were not available for use. The hotel did rectify the situation by getting the jetskis up and running for guests to use. I will note that while it didnāt detract from our jetski experience, the jetskis themselves were pretty beat up and had clearly seen better days.
The hotel also has a game room for kids (or adults), a salon, a gym, a play area for kids, and a very nice spa (that my partner used twice), as well as several restaurants. We ate at Buko Bar the first night (which was disappointing but see separate review), and then the breakfast (which you can eat at the main buffet or at the Italian restaurant in the Ocean Tower wing). The breakfast was decent, and I have had a lot of 5 star hotel breakfast buffets in Asia, and this is definitely one of the better ones in the Philippines.
Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and I highly recommend the Shangri-La Mactan despite its age. I recommend the hotel for both couples and families alike. I would definitely stay here again if I am in Cebu again.

First of all I'd like to stay how beautiful the property is. The property had lush tropical greenery and had extra clean facilities where staff swept and dusted not he daily to keep hotel in mint condition. The highlight was how close the beach was with great white sand beaches and snorkeling! The restaurants were conveniently near the hotel which was just a walk away from our room. My nephews and mother had a great time as they enjoyed the game room and I kept myself busy in the fitness room which was well equipped with modern workout machines. The staff were accommodating, friendly, and went above and beyond. We tipped generously.
The cons: The hotel "nickel and dimes" you or in this case Philippine pesos. We upgraded to a family room as I was with my nephews and one was 12 years old which they charged him as an adult and they charged my nephew for a child fee for breakfast. The 2 adults were free which was my mother and myself. They also charged around 1300 Philippines pesos for the game room when my nephews accessed it. This should have been a complimentary experience as it is part of the hotel. Like I said they charged you for everything. They had so many hidden fees, government taxes, service fees as we were checking out. For a family of 4 we ended up paying $800 USD+ just for 2 nights. I kept trying to justify the price in my head to see if it was worth it but I'm really not sure at this moment. This is pricey even in US standard. I wish they were more transparent and explained to guests when checking in that the game room cost extra, the breakfast for extra persons were extra, and service charges automatically added to the bill. Transparency was lacking.
In conclusion we enjoyed our very pricey 2 nights stay. Not sure if I'd do it again as there are other beautiful hotels near the proximity of hotel.

Amazing stay at this resort, we were super happy with the service throughout and the quality of the room and facilities. We received a warm welcome and while we were initially in the Seaview King (Main Wing) we upgraded to a Panoramic Suite in the Ocean Wing - definitely worth the upgrade given we had an 8 day stay and wanted to relax inside the resort throughout.
What we liked: - Service at the Acqua breakfast and quality of the food and selection - Christmas-themed feel throughout and activities for our little one (2 years old) to enjoy - Swimming pools with great kid friendly installations (better than some water parks), and a mostly calm and easy beach for toddlers to enjoy, with white sand and clear ocean with fishes right by the shoreline to enjoy. The beach is just a 1min walk from the Ocean Wing which made it super practical and accessible, with reasonably priced stores to buy everything we needed (snorkels, protective shoes, waterproof phone cover, etc) - Cultural performance at Kasadya was great and our little one enjoyed it a lot. - Lobby lounge was really airy and open, with a nice bar and cocktails, we enjoyed relaxing here in the early evenings - Best dinner venue was Cowrie Cove, table overlooking the ocean was special!
Improvements: - Parts of the Ocean Wing need more renovation, in particular our suite room shower pressure was very slow, not impossible to use but would expect a bit better - At check-in the staff can explain in a bit more detail the various activities and amenities available, we had to dig around ourselves to find things

Iāve been staying at the Shangri la since 2011 but this was my first time sinceĀ before Covid and it was touching to be remembered by the staff that I have got to know over the years and hear all the āwelcome backs!ā
I was thoroughly spoilt from the Management team to all of the staff, I was allocated my favourite room and given some extra tweaks that took the stress of travel away. From remembering that I donāt like my food too spicy, organising transportation, checking that you are OK on the beach, the staff are so lovely that you feel at home so my 9 nights just flew.Ā
My favourite things are still swimming in the dark in the evening sometimes catching the fire show at Buka, the huge beach, and breakfast at Aqua even though there is far more choice at Tides.
Changes since my last visit.. I liked that any guests can use the Ocean wing pool and sun beds as during a previous visit you needed to be in an Ocean wing room. I only used the pool once but itās nice to have the choice and not feel left out!
You now receive complimentary litre bottles of purified water daily in your room which was helpful as it always required planning to buy the amount of water to drink otherwise.Ā
It may have been because a typhoon was passing during my visit so it was extremely windy but the seabed was trickier to walk on than before and I saw someone with a cut foot. I would bring my beach shoes next time although you can borrow some from the beach counter.
The hotel no longer has an airport shuttle bus so I booked a hotel car for arrival but there was an airport taxi rank.
The hotel is proactive with activities like snorkeling safari and yoga but during the bad weather they put on additional activities to keep guests and their children occupied. I would have loved to go to some of them!

The whole experience was great, the location with its own private clear water white beach, with lots of fish can be seen swirling even on 3 ft of water,. There are so many choices of food variety in the restaurant, Tide. But most of all, itās not complete without the warm attention that we receive from the restaurant staff, so focused on your needs, that the dining experience is a must on your visit to Cebu. We had the best breakfast buffet experience at The Tides. Thanks to Alvin Joshua TuƱacao. He was very attentive to our needs. He made sure that we were able to use the complimentary breakfast voucher (a membership perk of the Shangri-la Circle) during our early check-in. He was pleasant and very helpful. He made us feel like āroyaltyā. Thanks Alvin! Dinner was at its best as well with Mamerto Limaco III serving our table. His attention to detail was superb. He assured that we had a wash finger bowl on our table since we were eating crabs/prawns and other seafood. These 2 servers made dining the best experience at The Tides and worthy of this review and recognition. We also enjoyed the lechon fiesta presentation. Haha! One canāt help but also dance and celebrate. The Food was excellent. We enjoyed the sushi most especially. We will stay at Shangri-la again in a heartbeat.

I really had an amazing and relaxing stay in Shangri-la Mactan. From warm and welcoming check-in (thanks to Charles for a fast and hassle free check-in), the room maybe be old looking but it was superb clean! amazing toiletries and hardworking housekeeping, the hotel facilities are top notch, amazing pool, gym, beach beds, and lots of restaurants option. The cultural show was amazing makes me proud being Filipino seeing our cultural dances are seen by foreigners. I had amazing Marine Safari experienced, Stewart did an amazing job guiding and showing us marine creatures while making sure we are safe and enjoying the activity he also emphasized the importance of protecting our reefs and oceans to Korean kids. The breakfast buffet at Tides was also amazing (slight comment is there are few selection of cheeses compared to other Shang properties where I stayed) the restaurant staff are very helpful, always checking if we want coffee and juices and always clean our table. Also shoutout to the shuttle bus driver to the city, I saw him talking to foreign guests and helping them answering their questions and give suggestions. Overall I definitely will come back and bring my family on my next stay.

This was a family trip with our 6, 8 year-old kids during the holidays, and we were beyond satisfied! We stayed in a sea-view room on the 7th floor of the Main Wing, and the scenery from the room was breathtakingāit was pure relaxation just looking at it.
The pool, beach, Adventure Zone, and scenic walking trails filled with beautiful trees kept us happy. The private beach, perfect for snorkeling, made the experience even better.
The hotel is old and luxurious, itās so well-maintained that it exudes a charming and elegant atmosphere. I could really see how much effort goes into maintaining the stunning landscaping and facilities, even during a short stay.
Most importantly, we were deeply impressed by the incredibly friendly and professional staff. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with warm smiles and helpful attitudes, which showed us what exceptional service truly is. Jen from Tides especially stood out with her bright smile and thoughtful care every morning and evening. The housekeeping staff were also amazingāthey quietly and efficiently cleaned our room to perfection, making us want to keep it tidy ourselves. We also want to thank the staff Stewart who were very kind to kids and made balloons for them.
This was a trip we had high hopes for, and Shangri-La exceeded all expectations. Next time we visit Cebu, thereās no questionāweāre staying here again! Everything was just perfect.
Tip: If you have the time and budget, donāt miss Chi spa!!! Itās an unforgettable heavenly experience. Seriously!!!

Staff at the front desk, in the restaurants, or with room service, greeted each guest with a smile and courtesy, they were always willing to assist. Their friendly services made me feel welcomed and valued in an unfamiliar place.
The housekeeping team at the hotel consistently ensured that my room was kept clean and comfortable, always ready to attend to my needs and requests. Their attention to detail impressed me, as I would find the bed neatly made. These small gestures made me feel warm and appreciated.
The hotel's dining and culinary experience was excellent! The breakfast and dinner selections were diverse and of excellent quality. Whether it was local cuisine or international dishes, each dish was meticulously prepared and delicious. Our family particularly enjoyed the Chinese food in the Chinese restaurant. The dim sum, lobster and mango prawns prepared by Chef Liu were incredibly excellent! Additionally, Chef William, Chef Liu and the restaurant staff provided attentive service, showing genuine concern for guests' needs and ensuring that we enjoyed the best service during our dining experience.
In conclusion, my stay at Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa was a wonderful experience. Staff exhibited outstanding professionalism and a spirit of service that made me feel like a valued guest.

We are currently staying at Shangrila Cebu as part of our 3 night stay from 10-13 Feb.
Right from checkin we were greeted by unexpected surprises. We were upgraded from our Ocean view room to a suite! Checkin was smooth.
The hotel welcomed us personally and constantly stayed in touch with us over WhatsApp. Rooms are a bit dated as the resort was built in 1993 but the staff, the location and facilities more than makes up for it. They have magnificent pools, excellent water sports facilities, lovely spa, fantastic restaurants, a great health club and salon and a fabulous adventure zone for kids.
With our upgrade we were provided complimentary access to non motorised watersports (kayaks and snorkels) as well as lounge access. The lounge is great for a drink after a tiring day in the Sun.
We did jet ski, kayaking, snorkelling which was a lot of fun. Parasailing was cancelled due to bad weather but it shows that they treat guest safety as paramount. The beach is lovely with lots of fish visible right from the beach.
The restaurants are all lovely - Italian, International buffet. seafood and many more.
If we encountered any issue all we had to do was message the staff over WhatsApp and they took care of everything. Highly personal and top class service is what makes this resort stand out.
A note for improvement is to improve pricing for island tours (via Scottys) for larger groupsā¦they need to cap pricing as boat rentals are fixed.
We like to thank Nelusen at the pool who gave us towels every day (we may have got his spelling wrong), Dexter at the spa, Rona at front desk, the duty manager Mae and many others. We highly highly recommend this resort for their top notch customer service!

It's Sinulog, so traffic will be very long unless you leave early in the morning. Traffic is usually an hour to Ayala from Shangri-La. If you are adventurous and take a scooter, they can weave thru traffic faster, and it's 30 to 45 minutes.
There are more places to choose from in the Lapu Lapu area.
