I enjoyed my stay at the centrally located Hotel Agape. Situated between St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cathedral and The Orthodox Cathedral and right off Piatra Unirii. Quiet, elegant old world street. Hotel rooms were renovated in 2005. The historic building was built in 1887. Overall clean, low-key, hotel with good service. English spoken. There is an elevator for guest use. I was a female solo traveler and felt safe. Single cost $70 and includes a large breakfast buffet.
I stayed at Agape at the beginning and end of my trip. My local relatives made the reservations because I never got an answer to the emails I sent the hotel about reservations. The hotel takes all major credit cards. The building itself is interesting. Reminded me of an Italian style villa pension with an inner courtyard. It is my understanding the Catholic Church owns the building/land. Hence the name Agape. The hotel operator is Hungarian and the hotel has definite Hungarian decorative touches. The lobby is on the second floor as is the breakfast service. The breakfast is pretty extensive and good by Romanian standards. Corn flakes, pastries, Greek salad, cheese, bread, meats, juices, fresh fruit, coffees and teas. Friendly service. The best was that I informed the desk clerk of my 5 AM departure and the hotel provided me with a sack breakfast with plenty of food upon check out. That was a nice and greatly appreciated touch.
My first room was #207. A very spacious, airy and bright room with two beds and full bath with fluffy bathrobes and towels. The room has a nice little foyer outside the bedroom door. Nice hardwood floors. My mattress was a little hard so I took the extra duvet and slept on top of it. Very crisp sheets. A television with cable CNN and BBC. The bathroom in #207 was clean and modern but the shower stall was starting to rust, whereas room #314 has an impeccable better-constructed less worn bathroom. The room has large high windows. The pink window blinds do not block the light so the room can be very bright in the morning. There were no curtains to close over the blinds. The pink blinds do cast a pretty hue on the room. Also, the hotel was not crowded when I stayed there, so I did not have other hotel guests walking by my room and it was very quiet. There are restaurants in the building so might be loud if there is a wedding reception or banquet in the building.
Room #314 was a smaller room with two beds but similar in style. This room had an entry hall with a closet. This room had heavy curtains which you could close to block out the light. The bathroom was like new. This is probably a quieter room since on a higher floor but not as spacious as #207.

The hotel is in a very good location, the reception staff is 5 stars, helpful. The room is spacious, clean. Wifi in room was ok. The breakfast was of very low quality, tables were not clean in general. They were not cleaned by the staff after someone left. Poor choices of food, bad coffee. The restaurant staff did not replace the empty food containers in time. The maids were loud, started to work early, wake us up with the noise they were making.

We stayed for three nights in the apartment/suite with our family of five. It was a beautifully simple, "Classic Cluj" style. The entire hotel is a renovated wonder right in the heart of Cluj. We loved the location as we could walk or hop in a taxi and be to our destination of choice anywhere in the city in minutes.
We didn't really have any negative experiences, except for maybe one,... perhaps it was because we were tired, having just traveled for 24 hrs prior to checking in. But, we discussed our problem with the management and it was resolved quickly and even an apology came the next day. So, we were impressed with the humility to be able to own up when something went wrong and to make it right.
The children and my husband simply raved about the breakfast - fresh omelettes (have to ask for it)! So, that was nice... though rather than a nescafe coffee from a machine in the morning, I would have preferred a Jacobs coffee from a fine french coffee press. That's all I need when I wake up!
I would highly recommend the stay there... the apartment/suite was a good value for the price. Unfortunately, they only have one apartment so we had to move to two double rooms for the weekend because it had been previously booked. Doing that, our final bill got a little spendy.
Enjoy! Cluj is awesome and no better "launching pad" to exploring around than from the Agape Hotel.

They are under verry bad management, the restaurant had few types of food aviabile, even if the menu has 1000 specialites. The rooms are with old furniture, the elevator is verry old and creepy. There are not parking spaces near the hotel, but the location is verry central.

We stayed one night at Agape hotel because its position. First of all the hotel does not have any parking place but no worry you find lots of places on the street. The room is more than spacious, good heated, a little bit noisy. The furniture is old, beds and pillows don't know the word comfortable. Old blanket and " old school" TV with no functioning remote control. Poor mini bar, 2 bottles of coke and 2 bottles of water. Breakfast was horrible, some meatballs and schnitzels thrown on a plate, no fresh juice, no coffee machine working. Elevator is not friendly user. The only good thing is the positioning, very close, aprox 50m from Uniri Square. Staff of the hotel is helpful, the only thing rated at 4 stars. The hotel was not a good choice to stay, it has nothing to do with 4 stars.

No hot water.Clogged shower tab.Tasteless sausages and old oranges to offer for breakfaat in the middle of the summer. Almost completely flat matrees.So sad to say as Agape is perfectly located in the city centre and the staff is really kind.Some more attention to details would help believe you are actually in a 4* hotel.

the only good thing about this hotel is the location. otherwise is a cheap, old, dirty hotel. i dont know how it has 4 stars?! old furniture, old windows ( thank god it was not winter), broken bath appliances ( shower, blowdryer, shower cabin). the elevator takes forever to reach any floor. last but not least...the breakfast buffet!!!! very poor choice: 2 types of dried out meat, maybe 1 type of cheese. of course the cheapest food products. toaster and coffee machine not working properly. no cups for long espresso!!! the buffet is not refilled in time - you always have to wait if it runs out of food. also the 2 juices ( orange and apple - from cartoon boxes) are diluted with tap water!!! again...just location saves it!

There is so much wrong at this hotel. The bathroom shower was full of black mold. The breakfast, except for the bread, was unappetizing to say the least. The mattress was the hardest I have ever encountered. And it's on top of a night club where you can be sure to be kept up until all hours by the YMCA. Stay here only as a last resort.

I was here in February 2012. I booked a 3-nights package through booking.com because of the very good price. It is advertised as a 4-star hotel, but it is not.
The rooms are big, but the main problem is the furniture. It is old and of very poor quality, with beds making noise and being very small and uncomfortable.
The services are good and the location is good, with cheap parking space right in front of the hotel. But if I had to pay the full price of the hotel, I would be very disappointed. It is a 2-star hotel with big rooms.

The hotel located in city center. This is only one plus of it. If you are in the business trip for one - max 2 days you can choose this hotel. If you are travelling with family , it will not be the good choise. The rooms are big, but not cosy. The beds are narrow. The breakifast not good and not bad - featureless, just to eat something and run away. Personal was frendly, fast and helpfull. WiFi very slow.
