We booked this hotel as it was one of the few with a reasonable price when we booked late for cherry blossom season. Room was comfortable and we liked being able to try both a Japanese and Western style breakfast (which was included). While the hotel was not in the main part of Kyoto, it was a short train ride...

Very nice, comfortable hotel, across from the Imperial Palace. Staff were very helpful. We ate at the in house restaurant for dinner and breakfast and found both meals very enjoyable. Rooms were clean. A very pleasant experience

Everything about this hotel is wonderful, except that it is not close to bus stop/subway station. The room is small buy neat and has all facilities you need. The staff at the receptionist desk is always ready to help you and very friendly. They have a nice breakfast restaurant with a small garden with a pond. Their japanese breakfast set...

Stayed here for 5 nights in September 2016. Hotel is located in the central and northern part of Kyoto. Hotel makes for a good base for exploring all but the southern most attractions Kyoto has to offer. The hotel is located right next to the Imperial Palace. 10 minute walk from the city metro. Staff was always polite and courteous....

Old hotel with paper thin walls and heavy doors that slam through the night. This means you can hear everything from the surrounding rooms (either side, above and below), including their use of the toilet through the night! Doors slamming through the night just meant it is not possible to get a good night's rest, and that is not an...

After 3 weeks in Japan we have a good idea of what to expect for our money, but this place was a real anomaly. I would avoid booking here despite the good location - building is old and dated, which means walls are thin and doors slam loud at all hours - after 4 nights here we had not slept...

We find this to be a lovely hotel. We ordered a small double bed room, but it's just perfect for two. The bathroom is so cute with hairbrush, toothbrush, shampoo, body wash and other stuff you need :) we recommend this place!

This hotel is located right in from of the Imperial Palace and the room is good size, clean and has a great view of the palace. The staff is super nice and friendly. They have a restaurant and offer paid breakfast($10) I tried the Japanese breakfast but the portion was rather small and was OK quality. The American style breakfast...

Older hotel, but well maintained. Rooms size small but in line with Japan standard. Very nice Japanese breakfast. Front desk staff does not speak much English but they try to help. Nice location not too far from the metro station and right in front of the Imperial Palace.

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighbourhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.

“"Small double room" that we booked was almost too small for two people, but it would be OK for one person. Keep that in mind if traveling as a couple.”

“I stayed on the 4th floor, but do not have any special tips. It may be worth staying in a room that faces away from the road for noise, although those rooms also will look out over the grounds of the Palace so it's a trade off.”
