Stayed there for 3 nights. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the metro station of Shijo. Check in was good and the lady spoke good English. The room is extremely small and the bathroom even smaller ( reminded me of a ships cabin ) but clean. On the plus side the bed although small was comfortable and the...

Compared to the more luxurious sister hotel (Bettei), I felt the layout was more pragmatic and hence more comfortable. There was space for two luggages (as we were leaving in a hurry, I forgot the pictures), a larger sink area for toiletries, and comes complete with the usual set of Mitsui Garden hotel features - a zen garden, hot public...

I visited this hotel with a group of 27 travelers March 2017. The only positive thing about this hotel was its location. All my guests had a bad experience in this hotel! There are only two sets of lift serving 9 floors. It is a pain to wait for the lift, and when it comes, it has to stop on...

Stayed a total of 5 nights. My room was spacious and clean. I think my bed is a semi double bed, because everything in the room suggested that it's for two people. Mattress was very soft and springy. But still, I had a good sleep every night. Thin walls though because I could here my neighbours' laughing voices. There's a...

I can't help but to immediately write this upon check out while I m still at their hotel lobby. The experience here was really unpleasant and what was not I expected from Mitsui Garden Hotel chain which I have stayed before. 1) I checked in quite late into the hotel, which was about 10.00pm. Although my room rate was a...

This hotel was decent and I had pleasant 3 night stay. Rooms are smaller than what westerners are use to but its Japan. It was clean and near many restaurants and shops. The hotel is about 1.5 miles away from Kyoto station so you need Taxi or Bus to get to hotel.

This hotel is located along Shijyo street and it takes 10mins from Shijyo station of subway on foot.I think it is convenient that you can access Kawara-machi and Gion on foot from the hotel on foot. When you access to this hotel from Kyoto station, you can take subway to Shijyo station (2nd one from Kyoto station) and walk. I...

Very nice experience here, room size was ok for two person, there is a lot restaurant near by. And we have our very first public bath experience here, it was very clean and comfortable. Worth the price!

This is a quiet place to stay in Kyoto. It is situated not far from a subway station and there are buses you can catch even closer, with bus passes available at the hotel. The room is clean and quite large. Cons: The bed was too small in my opinion, and a bigger bed would improve the hotel a great...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
