Sakanoue was the best choice for a traditional ryokan experience without blowing an insane amount for one night. The room was cozy and had a private bathroom which was a plus. Location was PERFECT!!! Easy walk to Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka/Kiyomizu Temple/Gion. The Kaiseki dinner was very interesting. Everything they serve is according to the season. So most of it was all very...

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this hotel. The people were so kind. So happy. So willing to help you. I loved they offer western breakfast. I love it was served in our room. The location was spot on. You are IN the district, not near the district. We stayed at another more expensive hotel in Kyoto but this was by far...

It was hard to find a good value for money Ryokan in Kyoto, especially one that had private bathroom, I'm very glad I decided on Sakanoue, it was everything I could ask for. Friendly service, amazing breakfast, and super convenient location, the room also was very spacious together with separate bathroom area and entry area, also close to Okamoto's kimono...

Spent two restful nights at this tranquil ryokan. It is conveniently located about 15mins to kyomizu temple and 5mins to Gion. The kaiseki meals included in my package were delicious. The service from the property staff was excellent. Will definitely stay there again if I return to Kyoto.

We had a lovely night stay at this ryokan. The accommodation is traditional but comfortable, and includes dinner and breakfast. The food was plentiful and traditional, certainly different to what we had tasted before, and mostly delicious. It completed the experience having the food served to us in our room. I would certainly recommend this to complete the true experience...

We stayed at Sakanoue in late February/early March 2016. The room was excellently appointed and a very generous size. The staff was wonderfully attentive and accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. I would have loved to stay for another week. The 12 PM curfew (while common among ryokan) can be a bit tiresome if you're at all interested in nightlife....

I stayed in Sakanoue traditional Ryokan - and didn't expect such an amazing Kaiseki experience! they served an amazing dinner (with Fugu sashimi and other amazing delicacies!) We had a good experience - but the food is definitely the star! The staff are so nice and helpful, the area is filled with amazing food and nite life - along with...

Spent 2 nights in this traditional ryokan: handsome and large bedroom, nice and professional staff who speaks a reasonable english, great in-room service for bed setting (stored in the morning and set up in the evening on request) and breakfast. Sleeping on the floor on the soft futon is quite an experience, but you sleep reasonably well. The bathroom is...

Sakanoue offers an authentic ryokan experience at a relatively affordable price. The experience itself is very simple and minimalist, which is what one should expect of a ryokan stay. The service was discreet and the staff was smiling and friendly. The reception manager (who spoke pretty good English) was very helpful and helped us book dinner at a restaurant where...

We stayed at the sakanoue Kyoto. We took a taxi from the Kyoto station for 1500 yen to reach the hotel. The place is very clean, rooms are spacious, service is very good. Dinner while it offers the traditional experience and the cuisine was hard for us to appreciate. They had quill balls, barracuda etc., for non veg menu which...
