We enjoyed the spacious tatami room with futon. In the evening while we were out, they prepared the futon for us. They had the traditional Japanese pillows with the buckwheat hull and the yukata pj - we loved them! The room had a separate bathroom and a deep bath tub - enjoyed the relaxing soak. The breakfast was served at...

Located in the Gion district just a short stroll from the main boulevard the hotel is bright, very clean and staff are very professional (proficient with English) and friendly. Rooms are large (compared to some other hotels we stayed in) with good bathroom and in room service. Beds excellent with good pillow options. We felt very much at home due...

I have booked a room of japanese style mixed with western style. The room was spacious, quiet and warm. But the real gem of the hotel is not about the room or view, it is about the staff! The crew there was extremely friendly, their smile was one of the most beautiful smile i ever seen. They helped me to...

Lovely little hotel, where everything is done as expected quietly and efficiently. There is nothing bad I can say about this hotel. Stayed in December with family of 5 in the suite with both western and japanese style room. No one slept in the western room after trying the japanese. The japanese shower area was also quite a highlight. Staff...

The room was good sized and spotlessly clean. The staff bent over backwards to help us, including sending someone to take our bags downstairs without asking. They made reservations for dinners and, although the hotel doesn't have a laundry facility, tried to find one that we could use (we ended up using the laundromat down the block). We walked everywhere....

An overnight stay in this hotel was a good choice to be in the Gion area and experience Kyoto in the evening to spot geishas and see some of the Kyoto nightlife. We opted for the hotel type room so I can't comment on the traditional ryokan style rooms but our room on the third floor was very large and...

We stayed 2 nights in Maifukan in a Japanese style room. The hotel is in Gion, which is the historical part of Kyoto; it is very convenient to numerous temples, including those that offer night tours. (The hotel will also sell you tickets to Kodai-ji night-time so that you don't wait in the crazy long lines.) Just for the location...

Stayed here for 1 night in Oct. If you have booked traditional Japanese room, the reception of Maifukan will take you to another complex round the corner up the slope to check in and stay. Not a huge problem unless if you huge luggage. Better ask for the exact address if you arrive by taxi, saving you from walking. Check...

This is a reasonably priced ryokan in the heart of Gion. The neighborhood embodies the very reason for visiting Kyoto and this ryokan provides a reasonably authentic lodging experience. It's important to walk, and find, and follow the small lanes (not obvious from the main streets) around the inn. A short walk from the ryokan there is a wonderful winding...
