Most travelers use Kyoto Central as their base for a trip to Arashiyama, but if you want to savour this little town and all its beauty, then it's worth a night's stay!

We had an air conditioned, non-smoking room with a spectacular view of the Togetsu-Kyo bridge. The sound of the rushing water was soothing for bedtime. The bed was comfortable and furnished with a light comforter. A traditional Japanese set breakfast was also included. Their cute patio was inviting, but the summer humidity kept us indoors with the air conditioning! All major sights were within walking distance.

We were surprised that nearly all Arashiyama shops and restaurants closed at 6pm and were left with only one restaurant near the JR station. about a five minute walk from the hotel. Thanks to the front desk agent for this information, we were able to enjoy a delicious tofu dinner set, alongside the rickshaw drivers who were having a light meal and drinks after a long day of work! We could also...

The hotel is right on the canal, and each room has a wonderful view of the canal, park, river, bridge, and mountains. Walking distance to the main tourist spot. The bad photos on Rakuten and Agoda don't do it justice and the price was great. Downside: most rooms were smoking and had some of that smell, but all rooms were very clean. There is a local Onsen next door, 3 minute walk that makes this an extra special location! We are very glad we stayed here in Arashiyama one night, rather than returning to Kyoto like most. More

Staying in Western Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and impressive vistas during the Hanami cherry blossom viewing season mean that it is busiest in warmer months, though also gorgeous in the fall, when the mountains and hills along the banks turn multi-colored. Historic and engaging, even the rail cars in Western Kyoto seek to exemplify its traditional nature and scenic beauty. Many people, including natives, come to visit the 1,200 rakan statues at the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, which is still in use as a religious site.
