If you have enough resources, do not hesitate to stay here, it is worth every penny they charge you

The recent increase in room rates in Kyoto is disappointing for us Japanese, but it is a hotel we would love to stay in again.
The free hotel shuttle bus is incredibly useful for getting to and from Kyoto train station. In normal traffic is 15 - 20 mins and at busy times like rush hour, can take 45 mins so factor that in. We only used the bus going to Kyoto train station as we always returned later than the last bus that returned to the hotel (around 6pm). You can find details on the hotels website
The hotel is perfectly located near the centre of Gion and has a spa and restaurant however we decided to eat out for breakfast and dinner so can’t review the restaurant.
They have a lounge which serves fruit juice and mini snacks between 1pm and 6pm and you can do some origami there too.
Lovely hotel for couples.

Outstanding amenities, including make up removal cream, tonic, etc, Nespresso machine and daily complimentary bottles of water.
Walking distance to the Ginza shopping area and public transport.
Friendly staff.
The price is slightly over average but it is worthy as it includes a very abundant breakfast, to choose between Japanese or Western/continental options.
Good location of the hotel next to temples, pagodas, small cobbled streets.
The service is always very attentive and welcoming, even if the level of English is not always up to par.
We had two rooms, one with two beds for the children, with a suitable size, one with a double bed really small. It was not possible to open the 2 suitcases in the room.
Breakfast is perfectly provided for Westerners. There is a free bar open until 6 p.m. (soft drinks and M&Ms..)
We did not try the restaurant which is very expensive (>100€ / head) in a setting which is not great..
but there is a little Sagan restaurant at the end of the street on the right which is perfect. With desserts..
We would happily return.

Even though it's a busy area, the hotel is very quiet and relaxing.
Pros:
- Windows open - yay to fresh air! Even in winter we like to switch off the air conditioning and open the windows.
- Bathroom design is great. You can separate the bathroom from the rest of the hotel room by a large sliding door.
- Great room induction by staff. Very thorough.
- Walk straight out the front door and cut through the Kenniji temple opposite. You can then continue your way into the heart of Gion.
Cons:
- You need to remove your shoes to go into your room. But there is no bench or seat provided. For non-Japanese and "older" folk this is a bit tricky. We requested a stool.
- The train station seems close but then you have to walk a long way underground. However it is better than squishing into the buses.
- There are no coffee shops nearby that serve espresso-based coffees. Some cafes don't open until 11am, so breakfast can be tricky.
- Complimentary small hotel bus to and from Kyoto station fills up quickly. You have to line up early to get on.
N.B. We didn't use the public bath, so can't comment.
We had breakfast at the hotel one day, but we didn't go back. We found the espresso-based coffee (cappuccino, caffe latte) at Tully's in Gion Hanamikoji Street to be worth the 10 min walk.
