Super convenient and quiet place: 2 mins from the main road (四条通shijodori)but avoided those teeming streets; only need to take 5mins to the food market (錦市場Nishiki), 15 mins to the Yasakajinjya(八坂神社). The only thing to remind you: Go get the pillow in the front desk floor when you get there (you will see when the escalator door open) because the...

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in April 2017 for the cherry blossom season. This was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our 22-day trip in Japan. Unlike for other reviewers, this was one of the more expensive hotels that we booked. The best thing about this hotel is the location. The hotel was very...

It's a small little hotel in the Best location. The rooms are tiny, but it's Kyoto, you'll never be in there. We got to the hotel super late at night. The staff went above and beyond to reopen the place and get us settled in. LOCATION IS AMAZING!!!!

This hotel is situated around 5 mins walk from Kawaramachi station. It is a little tricky to go to this hotel from outside the road but if you have Google maps that will solve your problem.Anyway my comments are as follows: 1. Great location..centre to many attractions, Nishiki Market,Teramachi market,Pontocho Street,Gion..all within walking distance 2. Small room but ok for...

Traveled as a couple and stayed for 3 nights in Jan'17. I was expecting a no thrills experience given the price but was pleasantly surprised. It has a great location among shops, restaurants and transport connections - all without being noisy at night. Our double (non-smoking) room was also more than large enough for 2 with all the expected amenities...

The location is awesome and easy to find out even we r the first time to visit Japan. Really convenient to all the shops & restauran. It's good enough for couples to stay but not sure if u have the kids cuz not really big space in the room. Simple breakfast which is good value for what we are paying...

I was here for 1 nite during with my family. The lobby, hot spring (same room for male and female but separate time, must get door password from lobby first) and breakfast from 6-9am not that variety but still acceptable with plenty of seat. Location was the best for this hotel since its located in prime shopping area with walking...

I wish I could give this hotel a 5, but it is only because the room is so small and cramped that I gave it a four star rating. There are two of us so we had to coordinate our movements to get past each other. It is very clean. The breakfast buffet has both Eastern and Western food choices...

This is a no-fancy-no-frill hotel. The room is small; I do not recommend this place if you are a big guy. However, the room is clean, the bed is comfortable, the location cannot be better. I slept very well. The hot spring was nice. It may seem a little bit pricey for this kind of "business hotel"; however, you are...

We had a hard time finding this hotel at first. But after that, we realize that the location of the hotel is amazing! The easiest way to get to this hotel from Kawaramachi train station is via Takashimaya Mall exit. Once you’re in the exit, across the street you will see Zara (the Clothes shop). Beside Zara is an alley....

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.

  • Who wants to look at Kyoto? Hopefully you don't, because that window ain't opening.
  • Great view, huh? And try walking between the bed and the couch.
  • Isn't this an attractive setting? Yes, that's a $2 clock.
