I had the room with toilet and shower very comfortable and warm. Clean towels every 2 days and housekeeping done daily. Friendly staff and washing machine available. Price was good and location even better. Very close to train station.

Great little budget hotel. Maybe a 10 minute walk with luggage from the main north exit of Kyoto station. The rooms are cosy but larger than average for Japan. Staff are very friendly and provide an annotated map on check-in plus a folder detailing the local sights. Rooms are cleaned and towels changed every other day with the option to...

I stayed in one of their capsules for two nights while backpacking through Japan. The place is very conveniently located near the train station so if you have a rail pass it is perfect as a "home base" while you explore nearby cities. Compared to some of the other capsule hotels I stayed at, this place was extremely clean. It...

The welcome I received at the Capsule Ryokan Kyoto was the warmest I have ever experienced through years of business and holiday travel. The accommodation is superb value for money and offers so many home comforts for a basic accommodation. The showers are super powerful and the traditional futon bed amazingly comfortable. Highly recommended for a convenient location (very close...

First of all, I have never seen a capsule that opens from the side rather than the foot of the bed, but it's so easy to get in and out of. It also offers privacy that I typically have to sacrifice when I stay in dorms. The location was great--Kyoto Station is a hub for buses, trains, dining, and the...

I think for the Kyoto price this is a very good deal, close to the station and with all the facility you will need. The give you all the information and a lot of places to eat and drink close by . Really recommend this ;)

Stayed in one of the tiny private rooms. Everything you need is in the room, including a fancy shower. Everything is clean and well-organized. The reception area also has a number of items (pillows, toiletries, etc.) that you can borrow for free. The staff are extremely helpful with tips and recommendations for everything in Kyoto, from restaurants near the hotel...

I stayed with my partner at the Capsule Ryokan Kyoto for 4 nights and highly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are small, but the hotel is advertised as a capsule hotel so that is to be expected. One treat surprise was the our tatami beds could be lifted for luggage space beneath them! The staff are also incredibly friendly, and...

We stayed in a private room. It was over new years so many places were fully booked already. The staff is nice. Though the room was not clean. It was full of dust and it smelled a bit weird, a bit moldy AC maybe? I asked the staff to clean it, but it kept smelling. They did put air refresher...

you know what to expect when you book a capsule. A tiny room, but confortable enough. I stayed there 9 nights, and I didn't regret it at all. Plenty of things to explore, the proximity with the station allows you to start early or to stay in bed later up to you. The staff makes the difference, they are kind,...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
