We were travelling with our 3 kids aged 6,8,10. I booked early and asked the hotel to give us rooms that were connected by an entry corridor. There was then one external door to the lift area. We had rooms 1005 and 1006. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable although the mattresses are very firm (like all Japanese hotels). Kids...

We spent 5 nights at the Citadines over the New Year period. It is a small, very clean hotel staffed by attentive people. It's location is generally fine for most tourist attractions - however if you have a lot of luggage and are unable to carry it up and down a lot of stairs, using the train to get there...

We had a studio premier room. it's very spacious for japanese standard with a kind size bed. the reception staff are always very helpful and spoke good english. the only miss is that the location is at Gojo, which is not that near the action areas (shijo and sanjo, Gion). my partner and i are fine walking a long way...

Last December2014, our family of 5 went on a holiday trip to Osaka / Kyoto in Japan and stayed in Citadines Gojo. The rooms were comfortably sized and made use of every available space efficiently! It didn't have the cramped feeling. Each room had its own kitchenette with the utensils and stuff all neatly in place. The staff was very...

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon to Japan. Lovely property and very easy to find (Exit 3 from Gojo Station subway, 1 stop from Kyoto). Although it is in a quiet area of town there are shops near by such as 7/11 which is very handy. Staff were very friendly with excellent level of English. We...

Having come from Hotel Icon in HK was always going to be hard for any hotel to follow but the Citadines is clean, very well located and reasonably priced. We had 2 studio rooms, pretty small but well equipped.

Two friends and I stayed here (2 separate rooms) for 10 nights at the end of November while visiting Kyoto during the fall foliage season. I loved many things about it: friendly and professional staff, spacious room, comfortable bed, deep tub to soak in, Toto toilet (then again, they're everywhere!), kitchenette (which I didn't use much as we ate out...

Having stayed at the Citadines in Melbourne, I knew the newer venues were good value. We stayed for three days. The venue was close to a supermarket, McDonald's and some food outlets and one stop by subway to Kyoto station. The room was a good size and clean. The bathroom was small as expected for a Japanese hotel. We had...

Easy to get to, right next to Gojo subway exit. We booked a double premier, and were shown one at the front of the hotel. Very noisy from traffic on the main road right outside. No way you would sit out on the balcony. When we asked for somewhere quieter, we were shown to an equivalent twin at the back...

Stayed for three nights. Not much else to add from all the other reviews. Location of hotel was very good in some aspects: 1 subway stop from Kyoto station, and a convenient 5 minutes walk from either Gojo station or the local bus routes. You are not terribly close to the Gion area, but a one stop subway ride away...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
