If you are in Kyoto, staying near the station is a big help as it is central to your travel in the area. This hotel is safe, attractive, well presented and very close to the station. Typically hard beds, and excellent shower. Good amount of space for solo traveller. However, i stayed in a hotel to which the above description...

The room was average size for a japanese hotel room. Nice toilet seats with benefits! Free noodles served every night (but no flavour options for vegetarians) and a very nice onsen upstairs with an outdoor pool. The location was good, very near to the main station of Kyoto but still the area was quite restful. You can walk everywhere from...

This is my first stay at Dormy Inn, well-maintained and sought-out business hotel with hot spring, onsen at the top floor. My room is on the 6th floor, really tiny, however, it is filled with everything I need and more: free TV, small refrigerator, tooth brushes with tooth paste, hand soap, small hair brushes cups, portable makeup mirror, room wears,...

Breakfast: If you find yourself near a Dormy Inn over the Christmas / New Years holiday, be sure to sample their beautiful & hearty New Years Breakfast! After ringing out the old year (2016) at midnight at one of the Kyoto temples, I got up the next morning and had New Years breakfast at Dormy Inn Kyoto Ekimae. [Note: non-guests...

Typically small Japanese hotel room but comfortable bed, clean and everything you need in the bathroom. Complimentary noodle dish in the evening after 19:00. Well located a couple of blocks from the main station. Lots of retaurants and shops nearby. Very convenient all around.

We stayed for 2 nights as a family of 3. It was peak season so the rates were higher, but still reasonable, especially if you compare around the area. We were on holiday, so the location - a couple minutes walk to the train and bus stations, made it an excellent base to travel from. As many reviewers already noted,...

Due to it being an expensive season they had good reasons to sell rooms for residual ours price and they could still fill up. Breakfast was OK but too full of people and many people were waiting in the morning, so I am not coming back for business. It is good location, only a few steps from the station and...

We stayed in Dormy Inn for 3 nights on our recent trip to Japan. The main criteria that lead me to choose this place was the convienience to Kyoto station and I guess we could not have chosen a better place. It is literally next to the station and easily connects via bus and train to all the attractions in...

Stayed there for a week. i have nothing bad to say about the hotel. 2-3' walking from the Kyoto central station in a very safe area. Rooms are small but they are extremely well sought after with many high tech amenities and details. I have also tried their full body massage twice and it was amazing. I highly recommend this...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
