We had a lovely stay at the Anteroom, the decoration in the hotel (rooms and public areas) are great and a joy for interior interested guests. The staff was superfriendly and took good care of us. We had drinks in the bar and they had a great variety of japanese whiskeys among other nice alternativs. The breakfast was so and...

I stayed in a single room for 3 nights. The hotel is very minimalist and has a slight "hipster" quirky vibe, which I enjoyed. The room was a good size with private bathroom, and lots of toiletries. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was great at 1000 yen - lots of food. Hotel is in a reasonable area - about 15...

The southern parts of Kyoto are very calm and seem almost remote in comparison to the northern neighbourhoods. There are hardly restaurants anywhere near Hotel Anteroom Kyoto and the surrounding lacks both Kyoto's spiritual vibe and the urban atmosphere you may know from other Japanese cities. This is the main reason for our rather harsh TripAdvisor judgment. The rooms and...

Easy to get the hotel from Kyoto station by taxi. A cheap car park nearby(800yen/24hrs). There are a supermarket and a bakery in front of the hotel. We stayed at semi-double bed room but space enough for two!

Hotel Anteroom's definitely one of the most value-for-money hotels I've stayed in, especially in Japan. A real steal for its well-maintained amenities and cosy room! I love the design of the hotel lobby, and I'm pretty sure hipsters and photographers would go crazy for this place. The quiet lounge is also a pretty nice place to visit in the evening...

Thought the location of the hotel is a little bit far off from town centre, but just a short walk, there is a bus stop and got buses go to some famous places such as Tofukuji Temple, Kiyomizu dera, etc. But I only found out this by myself at end of my stay, the front desk lady didn't tell me...

This is a wonderful modern hotel located in a quiet residential neighborhood to the south of Kyoto Station. From the outside and on entering it looks less like a hotel than an avant-garde art gallery (the art hanging in the rooms are for sale). The photos shown on the online booking site were realistic and truthful. Room furnishing, decor and...

At the hotel lobby you are surrounded by modern art pieces. There is also a dining area which serves excellent Western breakfast and a bar for some late-night drinks. Room is modern in the Japanese style where things are floor level, utilitarian and compact. Good value for money. There are buses to town area about 10mins walk away. Area is...

A little bit long from the main station. Once you go inside the room, you can feel the simple Japanese style. So clean, so tidy and you simply want to stay inside the room for a whole day. The staff are very helpful and English communication is not a problem.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
