Getting there
Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful stay, this is NOT the place for you. While the amenities are lovely. the location is prime, and it has potential to be a great stay, it's crowded and the clientele is loud, some were even rude (not the hotel's fault).
Shoes are not permitted anywhere in the hotel, you must lock them into a locker upon entering the premises; I wish I'd have brought slippers. The tatami floors are stained and some decor was dusty looking, but overall the place was decently clean.
The location is great - only 2 blocks away from Kyoto Station. Plenty of food and shopping options nearby. Several convenience stores within a 1-2 block radius.
Rooms are a decent size for Japan, you have space to put your luggage, and there is a small sitting area with coffee table. Be aware that their double roomed beds are somewhere between a twin and full-size mattress size. They are NOT for two people to comfortably sleep together. The sitting area isn't a couch that can be slept on either, it's a hard tatami covered bench with 2 thin cushions. We had 3 of us (couple & kid) and could not fit comfortably, but we made it work.
The hotel is centered around its hot baths, which are open from 3pm-11am. Like all onsen and most Asian spas, they are separated by gender and fully nude. Both sides get super crowded at night when tourists are returning from excursions. My biggest complaint here is that the ladies' side has no cold plunge pool, whereas the men's side did. For your post-bathing experience, there are complimentary ice pops & Yakult yogurt drinks. Ice pack "pillows" are available too.
They have 6 free massage chairs-though they were always taken. And they have laundry rooms with free washers-dryers cost 100yen per 20 minutes-also very busy and almost always taken in the evenings/nighttime. There are complimentary drink machines in the lobby (coffees, teas, matcha, water).
Rooms come with pajamas & toe-socks. You get complimentary items like razors, toothbrushes, wipes, etc. Your towels are placed in wicker baskets. My biggest complaint here is there are ZERO hooks or towel bars to hang up your towels in your room. Air-conditioning was decently strong and controllable in the room.
Breakfast is included - it's a fantastic buffet with so many delicious options to choose from. And the staff are lovely, they work their butts off. Again, it's crowded and noisy though.
It's got potential to be a very good stay aside from the crowded/loud/rude clientele.

Thank you for sharing your detailed review with us. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us understand where we can improve. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed our amenities, prime location, and the breakfast buffet. However, we sincerely apologize that your stay was affected by the noise and crowded environment. We strive to create a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere for all our guests, and we're sorry to hear that this wasn’t your experience. Regarding the tatami floors and some aspects of cleanliness, we appreciate you bringing these to our attention. We’ll be sure to address these concerns with our housekeeping team to ensure higher standards are maintained. We also understand your concerns about the room size and the bed arrangements. There may have been a mistake at the time of creating your reservation, as our double rooms can only be reserved by singular guests. However, if you have meant "double roomed beds" for our Japanese size queen bed, we apologize that the setup didn’t meet your expectations. Your comments about the onsen experience and the availability of facilities like massage chairs and laundry rooms are also noted, and we’ll look into ways to manage these high-demand areas better. Lastly, thank you for your kind words about our staff’s efforts. We truly value your feedback and will work on the areas you've highlighted to improve the experience for our future guests. We hope that despite the challenges you faced, you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future. Warm regards, Onyado Nono Kyoto Hotel Receptionist Kishishita

We were at this hotel for 5 days 4 nights and enjoyed the hotel amenities very much. Here are some insights of the hotel.
It’s hard to pinpoint the exact name of this hotel since it’s written various ways on different booking platforms. Located about 10 mins walk from the Kyoto train station, we found the walk enjoyable especially when you figure out that you can access the underground tunnel to the Kyoto train station. If you are familiar with the route this is a good option to stay out of the cold. However, if you are not familiar you can easily get lost and be overwhelmed, so recommend to stay on the main street to navigate yourself to Kyoto station.
Once getting accustomed to taking your shoes off and storing them before entering the hotel, you will find the hotel has all the necessities you need. It can be annoying since at busy times everyone is trying to put on their shoes in the front entrance.
There is free water, coffee and tea available at certain hours near the lobby. As well as other free goodies throughout the days (ie. probiotic drinks and ice cream) closer to the onsen. Free massage chairs is also a big plus after a long day of sightseeing Kyoto. There is also free half portion ramen at night if you get hungry. If all these freebies don’t make it easy for you, there is always a convenience store right across the hotel. The washer is also free which made it extra easy to launder your clothes. The dryer cost money but it is minimal.
The hotel and rooms are Japanese design which we really enjoy. The beds were on the floor on tatami mats. The rooms have separate toilet room and shower which made it nice for sharing. Overall, the room is spacious enough to store luggage and beds were comfortable. Some of the reviews mentioned that this hotel is used by tour companies while that is true, you will find yourself immersed with more foreigners than natives.
The onsen (bath house) is probably one of my favorite amenities of this hotel. It offers quite a few soaking options. A great place to relax after a long day of walking. There’s always someone there and during peak hours it is very crowded but if you go odd hours, it is pretty serene.
We did not purchase the breakfast package during breakfast hours you can see people queuing up in line to get in for the breakfast buffet. It seemed like it was a wait for breakfast so we are glad we didn’t do the breakfast package.
Overall, this hotel met our expectations and will be returning for another stay if we ever find ourselves in Kyoto.

Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear that you were able to enjoy your stay, and our services. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our Japanese-style accommodations, complimentary amenities, and the relaxing onsen after your days of exploring Kyoto. We appreciate your insights regarding navigation to the hotel and the process of removing shoes at the entrance. We understand that it may take some getting used to, especially during peak times, but we hope it added to the authentic ryokan-style experience. It is wonderful to know that you found value in our complimentary services, including the drinks, massage chairs, and the night-time ramen. We are also glad you appreciated the layout of our rooms, designed for both comfort and functionality. Your comments on the onsen experience are much appreciated as well. As you mentioned, it can be busier during peak hours, particularly around dinner time, but visiting at quieter times does allow for a more relaxing experience. We’re glad you were able to avoid most of the crowds that come with our tour groups. In the case of you visiting our hotel again, to avoid any inconvenience, we would like to advise you to use the TV to check how busy the onsens are. By doing so, it should help you avoid the crowds, and enjoy a serene time in the onsen. Additionally, for our breakfast, we recently implemented a QR code system that lets you queue up online, allowing you to wait from the comfort of your own room. We truly appreciate your kind words and are delighted to know that we met your expectations. It would be our pleasure to welcome you back if your travels bring you to Kyoto again. Best regards, Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Receptionist Kishishita

It is a very large and very busy hotel. It is very close to Kyoto station, hence very convenient to get anywhere. The rooms are small and the hotel does not service them during the stay, yet they take out rubbish if you leave them by your door and bring fresh towels everyday. You get a sense of crowd everywhere you go, especially at the breakfast room. Breakfast is a mix of asian food and the Japanese take on continental. Yet the hotel has an amazing secret gem by way of the free in-house onsen. It feels like a luxury spa. The zones are clearly separated men/women and no clothing whatsoever allowed inside the baths like any Japanese onsen. Loved the hot and cold baths. It was never busy.

The overall stay in the hotel is very relaxing so that I will give it 5 over 5. However, you have a few things to know before you can fully enjoy the hotel, which I will write below.
First, this hotel is very similar to Ryokan, but without dinner. You need to take off your shoes and put them in the shoe box, where you can choose whatever you like. Amenities such as toothbrushes on located on the first floor of the hotel, close to the front desk. In other words, don't forget to choose the amenities you need since you cannot find them in your room.
The room itself is small, especially for the bathroom. However, the decoration is good. The overall room size might be a problem for people who like large rooms, but it is at least fine for me. Also, don't expect a good view from the hotel as it is close to the Kyoto Station. You can only see other buildings near the hotel. Keeping the window close will be a better choice.
For breakfast, you can have a lot of choices. If you want to try everything, you might be very full and can skip lunch LoL. Overall I believe the breakfast is high quality, and it is worthy choosing the plan with breakfast. The hotel also provides late-night snacks, noodles, which is ok. However, you can also find a convenience store close to the hotel, so choose the one you'd like to have for late night snack.
The Onsen itself is large and good. The temperature is in a reasonable range for me, so not like some onsen's temperature is so high. It might be the reason for the overall small bathroom in the room.
For the location, the hotel is close to the Kyoto Station. However, you might still need around 10 minutes walk. There are some hotels that are much closer to the Kyoto Station, but if you compare the price, you will find out this hotel is pretty balance between the location and overall service. I will highly recommend it if you are not so sensitive to the time to walk to hotel from the station.

Thank you for staying in our hotel. We really appreciate for your good review. We are not providing dinners, so we recommend to have dinners to the outside. There are some recommendations around hotel. Our hotel’s all of floors are TATAMI style, therefore we are kindly asking to take off your shoes at the entrance. From this spring, we preparing amenities such as toothbrushes at the wash basin’s drawer of your room. If you need extra, please feel free to ask at reception. If you need slippers, there are disposable one in near of the reception. Our hotel has some kinds of room. Therefore, if you like to stay more huge room, the triple room is good option for you. Please try it next time. There is buffet style breakfast, we offering Japanese style menu such as TEMPURA, SASHIMI, and TSUKEMONO and so on. Moreover, you may try complementary noodle service every night named YONAKISOBA. It is available from 9:30pm to 11:00pm. Our hotel is located the place where is convenient access from Kyoto Station and Shichijo Station. I’d like to use your comment as a reference. What’s good. Breakfast was included for us. It was a cafeteria style with a really vast selection. This was the best Japanese breakfast we encountered in 5 hotels of varying price points (and it is all you can eat). Downside is it can get busy and there are some who display bad manners. Their dining space is big and the staff keep turnover going. Rooms: Decent beds, a safe, water and dessert jelly to start in a small fridge. No views anywhere but fairly restful. Yukata and socks are provided. Checkin and out: Pretty smooth. What is better: Great onsen separate by gender. Women have to use a code to enter. Several different kinds of pools. Free ice cream on a stick after onsen. Some massage chairs (good luck getting one and would you want to with all the people that use it). Use the television hotel site to determine how busy it is. Use the basket in the room to take your stuff. You need to bring your own towels from the room. What is cool for stinky travellers (you know you are): Free laundry. Yeah. There are washers in two locations. It’s free. Washing machines dispense detergent so you don’t need it. It costs only 100 yen to dry. One floor has gas dryers and one has electric. Use the first floor for better results. Use the hotel channel to determine which machines are free. The laundry channel is sort of mesmerizing. Also there is a women’s only laundry room. If you are really paranoid someone wants to touch your clothes, you can ask front desk for a key to lock the machine. What’s different. Shoes off at the front and into a locker. The entire hotel is tatami mats that people walk around in socks. People also use the yukatas provided to wear inside. What is sort of bad: It’s popular so it can be busy. Overall: A good spot for a Japanese onsen experience in a business or tourist class hotel setting.

This is the loveliest hotel! We had so much fun there because of the gorgeous onsen. There are several different baths and they tell you what ailments the water can alleviate. The baths are filled with natural mineral spring water and soaking in the pools really makes your back etc... feel wonderful. There's a very hot wooden tub, a cooler 'milky' pool, a chilled meditation pool upstairs with fresh air coming through paper screens. All the pools are surrounded by pretty rocks and plants. It's true that there's no cold pool in the women's section, but there are showers everywhere so you can hose down with cold water. Also all the toiletries are really good quality and make your skin and hair feel very nice. As everyone has mentioned, there are lots of freebies, and the ice creams are a nice way to cool down. The evening ramen is also very pleasant, most people there in their hotel pyjamas. Breakfasts were amazing. They had a whole section of famous Kyoto pickles and matcha sweets, as well as sushi rice, all kinds of fish, tofu dishes, fruit, salad, pastries, bread, eggs etc... I also loved the matcha lattes. The bed (queen) was very comfy and spacious and we found the room very pleasant to relax in. Staff were really helpful and nice. It's also an excellent location - so easy to go anywhere and there is a beautiful temple and temple garden very close by. Everything was lovely!

Thank you for staying with us at Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo and for sharing such a wonderful review. We’re glad to hear that you were able to enjoy all the onsen facilities thoroughly, and we greatly appreciate your detailed observations. Your detailed observations strongly encourage us to maintain the level of service, and it brings us great joy when people recognize the small details. We apologize for the lack of cold pools on the women's side, however, we will take this into consideration for a possibly new pool for the women’s onsen. We are also pleased to hear that you were able to enjoy all the freebies that we provide here at Onyado Nono Kyoto, and also our breakfast selection featuring numerous Kyoto specialties. Your kind words about our staff and convenient location mean a lot to us. We are delighted that you found our team helpful and that you had the opportunity to explore the beautiful nearby temples and gardens. Thank you once again for your thoughtful review. We would love to welcome you back for another relaxing stay in the future. Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Receptionist Kishishita

The check in area is well organized, but the influx of people in and out make it seemed messy. They are overall quite attention to detail: cleaning wheels on your luggage, storing shoes, and the free coffee/juice area in the check in. Rooms are clean, but small - typical Japanese rooms. The ramen from 9-11pm were nice, together with ice cream, the kids love it! The public onsen and massage chairs are great! It's just too many people. I had to go at 5am to be less crowded. Breakfast and yogurt drinks are delicious as well! Well recommended.
I left my passport in the room after checking out and leaving Kyoto to Osaka. The staff known by 'Reception Li' followed up and mailed my documents to my hotel is Osaka. That took care of a big burden while playing with kids at USJ! I hope the hotel paid for it and not her as I didn't get charged.

Thank you for your review! We're delighted to hear that you were able to enjoy your overall stay here in Onyado Nono. We always appreciate any feedback we get from our guests, and especially those that are positive. However, it is unfortunate to hear that the number of guests was overwhelming at times, and prevented you from being able to fully enjoy your stay. To prevent this issue from happening again, we will take more precautions to control the number of guests. It's heartwarming to hear about your positive experience with our staff, especially with 'Receptionist Li,' who went above and beyond to ensure your passport was returned to you in Osaka. We're pleased to hear that this helped you enjoy your time at USJ with your children without worry. Once again, thank you for your review, and we hope to welcome you back to Kyoto soon! Great location 8 mins walk fr Kyoto station . Hotel has no shoes rules but you can put your shoes in locker n wear the slippers provided .
This is hotel with in-house onsen facilities for male and female patrons . You can enjoy onsen after a long day’s walk.
Rooms are decked out in tatami , not very large so bring smaller luggage, found the bed and pillow to be quite hard but if you are tired you will fall Asleep .
Every night at 9pm they start to serve half portion of ramen .
Breakfast is a sumptuous spread with local and western food . Best is the chirashi bowl where you can top up as much ikura and scallop as you like !

I have used this hotel many times. There are so many foreigners in the hotel that I wonder if I am from overseas. They probably accept group tourists from Asia and Europe. However, as other people have said in their reviews, I always think about the terrible manners of foreign tourists. People around me say that if you don't like that, you shouldn't stay at this hotel, but I wish the hotel would control it a little more. Chinese and Korean people in particular are really noisy in the dining area, bathroom, and hallway. The bathroom and changing room are always noisy, and I wonder if these people can't see what's going on around them. Used buckets and towels are left dirty in the shower area, and in the bathtub, people scrub their bodies to remove dirt and the dirt floats to the surface. It's disgusting. In the changing room, hair, towels, and trash are scattered everywhere. It's terrible, which is unthinkable at other hot springs. In the dining area, the ice dispenser is always dirty with matcha latte liquid, and other places are also free to do as they please, so it's like a lawless zone. There is no compromise in the elevators, so it's basically unpleasant. It's convenient, but staying here makes you feel stressed in a way that you don't normally experience.

It's only because I forgot to book our last night in Kyoto that we ended up in this traditional hotel that I loved near the train station. Peculiarity: upon entry you are asked to take off your shoes and put them in the designated compartments so that the entire hotel walks around with socks on their feet. This seems strange but if it were a private house, this is how it would be done. This traditional touch fits into a modern, clean and efficient framework. Cozy rooms, ours with tatami, very clean, has the necessary space to accommodate two people and the towels are of good quality.

Yes but it’s very infrequent and takes way too many days it doesn’t make sense. Not sure if they made improvements since. You may want to check before you book to be safe. Thankfully we could use the luggage forwarding service by another hotel nearby where our friend stayed.
There are more places to choose from in the Kyoto area.
