The hotel staff was great and very accommodating. I don't speak Japanese outside of konnichiwa and arigato and I had no problem. The room was beautiful and it had a nice view of the city. I was only there for one evening so I didn't...More
Great service overall, with spacious rooms. Breakfast buffet was average but staff was so great that I have to give this hotel a 5 star. Concierge was excellent and answered all questions, we were planning to take taxi to all attractions but he helped us...More
Room and its amenities were good. However the location was poor with nothing else in the vicinity. We visited a Show and the only choice to get there was taxi. Dinner was expensive with only one other restaurant in the area.
We were part of a tour group (Great Rail Journeys / Travelmarvel) and really enjoyed our 2 night stopover. The positive was the half hourly shuttle bar to Kyoto Railway Station which is a fabulous building with oo’s of restaurants. The negative was the bathroom...More
About 15 minutes to train strain; hotel shuttle provided but check times and where to catch at railway station. Restaurants very expensive - Japanese, Chinese, Western. Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and
with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

This is a beautiful hotel, with a great location and free shuttle to the train station. They do have air conditioning, but depending when you visit, you may not need it. Each room does have it's own bathroom and hair dryer. Kyoto is a fabulous place to visit, especially during the fall and the spring. Have a great visit.
