Location: just across Kyoto station, good for travelers arrival by train. Room: tired and budget room, our double room is super small, a couple should book Twin room for more space, I have to climb up to the bed. No safe, very limited amenities, and not up to the Japanese clean standard. very limited electric sockets. So disappointed that I...

I spend three nights there during my visit in Kyoto. The hotel is just across from JR Kyoto Station or next to Kyoto Tower. I have a single room cause I traveled solo. The room was decent for the rate, this property is old and maybe need to refurbish soon. The reason i choose this hotel its because of the...

The hotel position is extremely useful because of the proximity to the train and local transportation station (bus and JR railways). The hotel looked not so new, as the really tiny room, the small bathroom, prefabricated, was a square plastic box that fit in a room corner. We found finger prints spots on the furniture’s doors, but overall the room was...

We had to book this room last minute, less than an hour before we checked in. Our shinkansen home was cancelled because of flooding caused by a typhoon, so we had another unplanned night in Kyoto tacked onto the end of our long weekend. Luckily, check-in was smooth, and because of its location, meals were easy to find. If we...

This hotel is extremely convenient being located just next door to the major bus station and trains. All these are enough to cover travelling and exploring around Kyoto. The only draw back is that there is nothing much around that area except the station shopping mall with some food and shopping etc. The hotel lobby smelled of smoke when we...

This hotel is just opposite JR Kyoto station. And there are two big shopping complex in JR Kyoto Station. JR Isetan and Porta. The location of this hotel is so convenient. Bus station is just in front of JR Kyoto Station. The design of this hotel is just quite old fashion. But the facilities in rooms is over expectation. There...

Walking distance to JR station. Bus stops to temples and other areas around Kyoto close to hotel and easy to use. Rooms a little small but typical for Japan hotels. Everything was new and clean. The staff was very attentive and helpful.Although the staff at the front desk cannot spoke and understood English well, they are very attentive and helpful.

Travelling on june. It was modest old hotel and we got good price. We were really happy with what we got considering the price we paid. The hotel location is right opposite to Kyoto station. We just needed to cross the street or took underground pass to get to the hotel. Again room was small as it is common in...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
