Our very first arrival at the hotel was warmly received by the Australian concierge Simon, who made us feel very welcome and taken care of. He showed us all the way up to our room and gave a quick explanation of the amenities in our room, which I thought was a very nice touch. The room was of a decent...

I'll never forget my stay in this hotel. Main selling point for this hotel were the staff. They're superb and go so far above and beyond. American hotels should use Japanese hotels as case studies. All the effort goes into performing to an extremely high standard, and choose to take pride in their work over and above tips. Limited communication...

Very friendly concierge (Simon from New Zealand), beautiful lobby, spacious room and bathroom, comfy bed, free wi-fi, and good location. Didn't try any of the restaurants because most of the 6-7 restaurants in the hotel only seem to have set menus and was pricy given that my friend was a vegetarian. Got a deal online so was definitely worth the...

First I would like to warn fellow travellers of the booking process used for these hotels in Japan. Unlike other IHG hotels these hotels do not carry the IHG price promise even though the promise is displayed many times on the booking page I was told that this was just an advert. Back to the hotel the entrance is promising...

Dear Dalzellst, Thank you for your recent stay with us and reviewing our property. I am pleased that you found our hotel lobby commendable. I am deeply sorry for the service you received from our housekeeping staff, breakfast and condition of the room accommodations. I assure you that this is not the norm you should expect from our hotel. Your...

My friend and I stayed here for two nights in March. Simon could not have been more helpful. He booked us in to have a makeover as Maikos as well as booking seats for us at the Tepanyaki at very short notice. When we came home from shopping (with many bags) he carried them up to our room for us....

This is a very nice hotel! Sure the rooms might see a bit outdated, but they are very clean; for me cleanliness is more important! We had a double room with two semi-double beds, a table with two chairs, desk, flat screen TV, mini fridge, hot water pot with instant teas and coffee, pajama night shirts, slippers, all the bathroom...

We stayed here for a night before our 1 day Kyoto Tour early on the following day. The location of the hotel is excellent as it is just next to Nijo Castle which is where the day tour began for us. The hotel provided complimentary shuttle to Kyoto Station as there is no nearby subway or train station within the...

Free shuttle from the station starts your visit to this hotel. Excellent rooms, very quiet convenient to all the Kyoto attractions. Concierge Simon was a great assistance over the 3 nights and it was great to have an Aussie on the staff. Food a bit expensive and the charge for the pool and gym is the only negative. Free wifi...

Centrally located but it has not be renovated for sometime. If the price is right, it may be worth staying. Service is excellent. We ordered a room with two double in the room. We thought we had it but found out there are no beds like that. They gave us extra cot without additional price so grandkids can sleep comfortably....

If you're in Kyoto as a tourist, the ANA Crowne Plaza is a good option, not just for being a few steps away from Nijo Castle, but also because it's centrally located and very convenient for the metro and bus system. They also have a shuttle bus to/from JR Kyoto station, but from 20:00 to 7:00 you'll have to rely...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The ANA Hotel Kyoto looks almost out of place with its modern exterior nestled amongst the sublime beauty and historic grandeur of Japan s old capital. This however belies the traditional hospitality and classic atmosphere to be experienced within her four walls. ... more   less
