We were very lucky that there was a vacancy, as we had not booked anything and just were going door to door. Such lovely people and so very helpful. We had a large room, no ensuite but being upstairs we were close to the communal bathroom. It was very comfortable and I loved the tiny self serve Japanase tea service....

Super friendly staff. Super clean. Great to have private bathroom in the room. Furnishing is sparse but that is typical of ryokans. Disappointed that the room had no wifi access. Location is excellent, within a few minutes walk from the main Kyoto station. Was going to the station each night just to see the light show on the steps! Placid...

Stayed at the Ryoken Heianbo in Kyoto. I wanted to stay at a Ryokan and I'm so pleased I chose this Royakan. We were greeted with such a friendly, genuine welcome from the family who run the guesthouse. The room was delightful, and the futon was very comfortable. We had a room without private bathroom, which I was initially concerned...

Me and my wife chose Heianbo for trying the traditional ryokan on our Japan trip. We only spent one night at Heianbo, but it was enough to see that it's a great place to stay. The location is ideal just beside the main station, yet it's hidden just enough, so you don't need to worry about excessive noise. Our room...

Our final ryokan was the best of three fabulous Japanese traditional accommodations we stayed in during our trip. The rooms were beautifully laid out and it was en-suite! We had a separate shower room and bathroom. There is a spacious communal area where WiFi is free, a great place to congregate to chat with fellow travelers about their adventures that...

My brother and I stayed here and it's the only ryokan we went to in Japan so possibly others have a more "authentic" feel but this served us well. The location is really easy to find from the train station and the breakfast is great. Room itself is spacious and welcoming to come back to each night.

The biggest stand-out feature of this traditional ryokan was the great location. It was 5 minutes walk from Kyoto station where you can catch trains or busses to all the tourist attractions. The taxi fare from the Gion district was 1000Yen. The rooms were spacious with private bathrooms. There was no noise at all at night. There were big cupboards...

Ryokan Heianbo is about 5 minutes walk from the Kyoto railway station and bus station. The Ryokan is very comfortable and clean. The staff are very polite and friendly. The room is a comfortable size with a small ensuite bathroom with separate toilet, in addition to the shared bath. The rooms have an air conditioner, small fridge, TV (only Japanese...

My daughter (6yr old) and I stayed in this Ryokan in June 2015. It was perfect! Very, very friendly staff, clean large bedroom, with tea making facilities and a huge wardrobe to place suitcases in and an enchanting onsen (hot bath!!). I have read some of the reviews on here and found that although people are complaining, they are generally...
