The hotel is quality service hotel. However, it has no view. It has nothing special to offer compared to other hotels near to Kyoto Station. It is about ten minutes walk. Within ten minutes you can find Kenkyo, Miyako and several others. The hotel is, however, neat and clean - one step above many so-called business hotels in Japan. It...

We arrived at this hotel late at night after a long day of travel with our kids. They had made an error with our booking, and to compensate, upgraded us to a large suite. We hadn't asked for this, and they sorted it all out quickly and graciously, as is the Japanese way. We were only charged a fraction of...

Rihga Royal Kyoto is a lovely hotel just a short 5-10min walk from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto Station. If you're not inclined to walk, they also have a shuttle running every 15mins from morning till evening. The check-in was very efficient and the rooms nice and comfortable, with all the usual amenities. The basement car is nice and...

Rooms are clean and stocked with good quality bathroom amenities. Location is near the Kyoto station with many restaurants and shops. Transportation is easy with train and bus station all in one place. The buffet breakfast is good. I really like the location.

We booked the comfort twin which provided ample space for everyone. Rooms were comfortable. They had coffee machines and tea making set in the room :) Distance was a 10-15 mins walk from the main Kyoto station but shuttle service to/from station is provided. Best to be at shuttle desk 10 mins earlier to get a spot. Front desk and...

Close to Kyoto station. Ugly on the outside, New inside after restructuring. Very comfortable room. Concierge service very good to help with restaurant bookings. The only disappointment was the swimming pool. Wasnt clear that there was a significant charge to use it. We didnt.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
