We stayed here for three nights, the room was a nice big size with a Gorgeous city and mountain view. The location was right in the heart of the city 8mins from Gion the old district which came to life and night. About 20mins walk from the JR Kyoto station. The concierge could speak fluent English and would go the...

Good location and use of the shuttle bus [need to book] back into the city very handy. Very friendly and helpful staff especially the 2 ladies who assisted with authentic restaurant suggestions. Older style hotel where you have to hand in your key. No complimentary water or western tea bags [I’m trying with the green tea!]. Easy walking to the...

Staying at the Okura Hotel was a real pleasure! The service at the hotel is friendly and efficient, the food and beverage offering superb and location is excellent. You will be within walking distance from the lovely riverside, great shopping areas( Teramachi dori and related shopping streets). Do try the local restaurants that dot the area if you love Japanese...

The Okura is quite nice and well located. Not as perfect as, say, the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo but very acceptable. The concierge desk is exceptionally good. The Metro is right outside the door and a constant stream of taxis too.

This hotel is fraying at the edges. At some point many years ago it probably was one of the best in Kyoto, but it is easy to see that it is worn and in a bit of disrepair. The room was comfortable, but noise from the street seeped through the windows. The bathroom was ok, but the drain emits a...

Stayed at the Kyoto Hotel Okura with my son for three days and it was a wonderful experience. The checkin was swift and the staff very friendly. We were allocated a lovely corner room that was very spacious by Japanese standards. They have more than three restaurants in the hotel so we were spoilt of choice. The breakfast choice is...

Yes. The Kyoto Okura hotel is with a classic & elegant ambience, lobby is grand and unique, hotel room is spacious, well decorated and the view is open. The hotel shuttle is good and convenient if you can find it as the access information is not clear on the hotel's website. I suggest you may ask the information counter of...

The service at this hotel is wonderful. From the bar, to the restaurants, to the front desk, everyone treated us as if we were "royalty". The location is great-- really near to the great sites of Kyoto. The accommodations were great! The only thing that was a bit off was the breakfast buffet. Depending on the time you go, it...

The Okura is a grand hotel with a large, imposing lobby and rooms above around a central atrium. In contrast to the space of the lobby, the adjoining cafe is a little cramped. There was a smell of smoke in corridors and in our room despite air purifiers however. A cafe across Oike Dori from the hotel offers lower cost...

Between the wonderful staff, luxury room and central location, I believe I'd 100% stay here again next time I visit Kyoto. A particular service offered by the hotel that I enjoyed is the shuttle bus between the hotel and Kyoto Station, a service I used daily - twice. Such a life saver for getting to the station to speed up...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
