This is certainly one of the harder reviews I have had to write. We stayed at the Okura for 4 nights and while our stay did not begin well, I came to truly appreciate this hotel. If you have the opportunity to stay on the...More
Very gracious, English-friendly staff and charming lobby cafe with excellent afternoon menu. Room was a bit small and TV was tiny - though enough for BBC, the only English Channel. Not sure there is a fitness center but if so, it's not listed.
We were with a tour group. Hotel staff was very efficient and the hotel's location was perfect. The room was comfortable and quiet however, the lighting in the room was dim so needed our own reading lights. Wonderful shower and bathroom. The breakfast buffet left...More
We stayed here for three days at the end of a tour of Japan and wished we could stay longer.
We had a spacious, comfortable room on the 12th floor with lovely views across to the mountains. The hotel is constructed in such a way...More

Kyoto Prefecture >
City Center / Kawaramachi / Karasuma / Shijo Omiya
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

I'm pretty sure they don't have any connecting rooms. On our recent trip I checked all of the hotels we were interested in and only one had connecting rooms and it wasn't this one. If a hotel doesn't have connecting rooms then we ask for rooms close together (usually side by side but sometimes across the hall) and and then my husband shares a room with my son and I share a room with my daughter.
