We were a family of 5 and decided to stay in a traditional Ryokan for one night during our 2 week trip to Japan. Are we ever glad we did! Montonago was in a very convenient location and even though we arrived early, they were able to hold our luggage for us and even provided some recommendations for exploring and...

We had a lovely stay at Motonago, it felt very homely and is in a great location for exploring Gion and the temples in the surrounding area. We enjoyed the Japanese breakfast and dinner and private onsen. What a great experience overall.

Our first time in a Ryokan did not disappoint. The location of Motonago was great for access to Gion corner, the JR station and Pontocho. Inside the Ryokan, the cultural etiquette of the onsen and the room were thoroughly explained by the excellent staff. This really was the icing on the cake for our trip to Kyoto!

We really love Motonago! We stayed 2 nights at Motonago for our honeymoon, and we can't get enough of it. Everything is just perfect for us. The location is perfect. The room was very clean, tidy, and super comfortable. The service was outstanding and very personal. And we love the food as well! We will definitely come back!

My wife and I stayed at Motonago in January 2017. There are so many compliments that it's hard to synthesize. The location is perfect, close to Temples and Gion. From the reception everything is spotless, including a welcome tea. The bath was reserved to a private Onsen style. Dinner was served in the room, very good kaiseki style. After, the...

Top notch customer service - staff was incredibly friendly and warm. Getting to experience a traditional ryokan was definitely one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. We truly enjoyed the private baths, breakfast in our room and having a kaiseki dinner in the room as well.

Nice location. Friendly, efficient staff. Sizable and quiet room for 3 people. Shared showers and hot bath are nice and well managed. Overall, a pleasant, simple, low-key way to get the Ryokan experience. Only minor suggestion would be to have the in-room mirror and vanity lighting a bit brighter and more convenient to use.

Recently stayed for two nights. Truly wonderful, welcoming and hospitable-- a great Ryokan experience. The location is also terrific for visiting some of Kyoto's best shrines and temples. Highly recommend the Japanese breakfast. Would go back.

Everyone there was helpful, kind, and considerate. The food was beyond great and gave us the opportunity to try something beyond sushi. I'll do more yoga before my next stay. Sitting on the floor all the time was hard. The location was great-near sites and near the river for running.

Motonago hospitality With Kyoto flavor a homy feeling. Motonago nestles in a quiet, nostalgic scene, completely apart from the hustle and bustle of the city. Once you step outside, you can sense the overflowing taste of Kyoto - Japan's old capital. All the charm of Kyoto is gathered here, where Motonago stands.
