Contradicting what some have said here, the staff and service were excellent. There was a mess up with my booking for the wrong dates (my fault), and they were happy to help fix it and did so in a very friendly manner. At one point when I thought I'd done clarifying and had walked 200m down the street, a member...

My review is more towards the service I got at the hotel reception/concierge (by the way, the room we got is small and the bathroom cleanliness is just okay). We were trying to ask the staff at the reception desk if they could help us call the restaurant at Osaka city for a dinner reservation a day later because the...

Located just a few blocks from Kyoto Station, Almont Hotel Kyoto offers clean and comfortable (though small) rooms and a fantastic breakfast buffet. Soak in immaculate public bath. Friendly and helpful staff!

The room is quite small but very common for Japanese hotels. The walk from the Kyoto station isn't too far but the hotel locates near residential area, so there aren't restaurants around to eat beside the train station. There is one 7-11 outside around 2min walk, so it's not so bad. The public bath area is a good addition if...

Hotel is unattractive from the outside, close to the station but far from the beautiful side of Kyoto. Reception is nicer which was a relief but then our check in ordeal began which ended with us asking for the manager and concluded our worst check in experience ever. We ended up saying we would just check out but we were...

We reserved a room at a weekend night, overlapping with one of the 3 biggest festival in Kyoto. But the price was still very affordable. This is a great plus given its good local 5-min away from Kyoto train station (JR + underground)! The room was small, good enough for 2 persons plus opening a big lugguage - and its...

Stayed for two nights at this hotel. Double room is small (bigger than a Tokyo hotel) two people can navigate easily in the room. Breakfast buffet has a great mix of Japanese and Western North American options. Public baths were clean and open late. The location to the Kyoto station is approximately a 7 minute walk and away from the...

My wife and I (from USA) spent two nights here while visiting Kyoto. This hotel is excellent. The staff were very friendly and spoke English well. The rooms were quite a good size for typical Japan hotels and the price was VERY reasonable for this. 5-10 minute walk from the train station. One of the best features is that this...

Not too far from JR Kyoto station, western style room with large beds. Very clean, friendly hotel with staff who are able to speak English. Only stayed The one night but overall helpful and comfortable stay. As we arrived early they were able to hold luggage for us. Breakfast seemed to be mainly Japanese buffet with some western food.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
